Description

Director of Network Engineering and Operations

Tachus Fiber Internet (Tachus) is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Network Engineering and Operations to lead our dynamic team. As the Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation and optimization of our fiber network infrastructure. This key leadership role requires a strategic thinker with a strong technical background in network engineering and operations.

Tachus is a fiber broadband internet provider delivering service to the Greater Houston area since 2018. Tachus is dedicated to enhancing the lives of its customers through best-in-class access to fast, reliable digital services and unmatched customer service. This approach has resulted in Tachus' industry leading Net Promoter Score from its rapidly growing customer base of over 40,000 households. The candidate will be joining a team that brings decades of IT, infrastructure, and technology experience with a proven track record of building and growing highly successful businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategy and Planning:
    • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and execute the strategic vision for the FTTP/FTTH/FTTB network, aligning with the company's overall business goals.
    • Lead the development of network expansion plans and ensure the scalability of the infrastructure to meet future demand.
    • Conduct regular assessments of network capacity and performance to ensure scalability.
    • Ensure responsible financial management for projects and teams including the establishment of capital and operational budgets.
  1. Engineering Leadership:
    • Manage a team of network engineers responsible for the design, deployment, and maintenance of the fiber network.
    • Provide technical leadership in the evaluation and selection of network technologies and equipment.
    • Work with OSP and Operations to coordinate construction and maintenance of our rapidly expanding fiber network.
    • Develop standards, best practices, and implementation patterns for deploying and operating a best in class fiber network.
    • Performs security reviews and risk assessments on the network and related supporting infrastructure, data and access and supports audits of the network infrastructure.
  1. Network Operations:
    • Provide strategic direction to the NOC Manager and Inside Plant Manager and assume overall accountability for the day-to-day operations of the network, ensuring high availability and reliability.
    • Provide team members with leadership guidance, mentorship and development
  1. Vendor Management:
    • Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors.
    • Negotiate contracts and agreements to ensure cost-effectiveness and service excellence.
    • Stay informed about industry trends and advancements to make informed vendor selections.
  1. Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, customer support, and marketing, to ensure seamless integration of network services.
    • Build and maintain relationships with key vendors, contractors, and regulatory bodies

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (10 years) in network engineering and operations, with a focus on fiber optic telecommunications.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of successfully leading high-performing teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of FTTP/FTTH/FTTB technologies, protocols, and standards.
  • Experience with network design, implementation, and optimization.
  • Experience working with vendors, negotiating contracts, and managing external resources.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance requirements.
