SYSTRA's expanding Construction Management business unit is seeking Construction Field Engineers – Mechanical to support our current and upcoming rail mass transit construction management assignments on construction projects in operating railroad environments in the New York City Area, including several NYCT Station Improvement Projects.

Responsibilities:

The Construction Field Engineer – Mechanical under the direction of the Resident Engineer will:

  • Serve as the on-site inspector for mechanical work performed by the contractor and subcontractors performing capital improvement work at NYCT Stations.
  • Interact with the construction contractor’s site supervision on mechanical field issues to insure compliance with the construction contract requirements.
  • Participate as part of the Construction Management team that includes Structural Field Engineers, Electrical/Communications Field Engineers, Office Engineer, and Project Controls personnel, all under the overall supervision of the SYSTRA on-site Project Manager.
  • Become intimately familiar with the project design documents, (plans and specifications) particularly those pertaining to mechanical work.
  • Perform daily on-site field inspections and generate a daily inspection report of the inspection results.
  • Accept Flexible Work Hours including nights and weekends consistent with the hours of the contractor’s work.
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards and monitor the contractor’s compliance with its Project Health and Safety Program and its Safe Work Plans, including attendance at the contractor’s daily safety briefings.

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum Five (5) years of relevant engineering experience including mechanical systems, air-conditioning, ventilation, pumps, hydraulic systems, and sewage ejector systems.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management preferred.

  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Prior field experience on rail mass transit projects. NYCT Improvement project experience including elevator installation projects preferred.
