System One is Hiring a Transportation Engineer (MOT) Near Cleveland, OH

Job Description: Transportation Engineer

Location: Cleveland, Columbus or Cincinnati, Ohio

Our Ohio offices are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Engineer to support a variety of design and planning projects in the Midwest region. The ideal candidate will have significant experience and demonstrated technical excellence in Maintenance of Traffic (MOT), detour plans, temporary/permanent signals and traffic control, ITS, geometric design, and the planning, organization, and completion of traffic studies and interchange project concepts for various clients, particularly states and municipalities. This position is part of our Midwest traffic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Act as a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer, overseeing budgets and ensuring the successful completion of assigned tasks.
  • Team Leadership: Plan, organize, and supervise the work of a team of engineers and technicians, providing strong leadership and guidance.
  • Contract Development: Develop the contractual basis for projects and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Technical Expertise: Serve as a technical specialist in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes in traffic engineering.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on new scientific methods and developments to recommend program changes or new initiatives.
  • Client Interaction: Ensure client satisfaction through effective communication and project management.
  • Field Work: Conduct and oversee the collection of traffic data, including traffic counts, vehicle spot speed studies, sight distance measurements, delay studies, and gap studies.
  • Design and Planning: Oversee and prepare plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates for traffic engineering components, including intersection geometry, signing and pavement markings, traffic signals, signal interconnect, roadway lighting, ITS, construction sequencing, and work zone traffic control.
  • MOT and Traffic Control: Prepare and oversee MOT, lighting, ITS, traffic control and signal design plans, traffic safety studies, traffic impact studies, and planning studies.
  • Professional Development: Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • ODOT Familiarity: Be familiar with ODOT MOT Standard Construction Drawings, Plan Insert Sheets, cost estimating, bid histories, CM&S, road user cost, and queue analysis. Understand ODOT highway lighting and signal design.
  • Problem-Solving: Engage multiple perspectives when solving problems, seek to learn from peers, and encourage reciprocal learning among team members.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ohio or eligibility to obtain licensure within six months.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, Highway Capacity Manual, and ITE Trip Generation Manual.
  • Experience with engineering software design systems such as MicroStation ORD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Visual Lighting, SignCAD, and SWISS.
  • Proficiency in capacity analysis software such as Synchro and VISSIM.
  • Completion of Ohio DOT Traffic Academy courses for MOT, lighting, signing, and marking.
  • Minimum of 6 years of design experience.

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • PTOE certification.
