SAFETY OFFICER

Summary/Objective

The Safety Officer is responsible for facilitating compliance with occupational health and safety (OSH), company and site-specific guidelines. The Safety Officer’s main goal will be to always ensure safe working environment and prevent any injuries and accidents. This role includes making frequent site visits to assess the current work conditions, conduct toolbox talks, and share any updates to safety practices that are important to Synergi’s field personnel and sub-contractors.

Primary Responsibilities/Functions

  1. Prepares and keeps current master program and project plans as well as sub project plans for monitoring and tracking the requirements and stays abreast of changes to the requirements. Provides information as needed on the content, modification, or presentation of project schedule.
  2. Interfaces with operations, owners, and subcontractors to discuss impact of working safely and resolution of problems.
  3. Plan and implement OHS policies and programs.
  4. Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics.
  5. Conduct weekly toolbox safety talks.
  6. Work with our third-party safety consultant on scheduling site visits and working together on any issues that may arise.
  7. Prepare any project specific safety documents (AHAs, JHAs, rigging / lift plans, etc.).
  8. Prepare educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis.
  9. Review existing policies and procedures.
  10. Adhere to all the rules and regulations.
  11. Work with HR to set up a new employee onboarding process for safety.
  12. Conduct risk assessment.
  13. Enforce preventative measures.
  14. Identify process bottlenecks and offer timely solutions.
  15. Check if all the employees and subcontractors are acting in adherence with rules and regulations.
  16. Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes.
  17. Oversee workplace repair, installations and any other work that could harm employees’ safety.
  18. Responsible for continuously expanding and updating professional knowledge, and honing training skills in order to enhance individual and team innovation and productivity.

Required Education/Experience

  1. 2 years of experience as a Safety Officer or similar role
  2. Excellent knowledge of legislations and procedures
  3. Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  4. 5 years of experience in producing reports
  5. Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety
  6. Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  7. Proficient in MS Office
  8. Working knowledge of safety management information system
  9. BSc/BA in safety management or similar field desired
  10. Certificate in occupational health and safety

Required Certifications/Licenses

  1. OSHA 30
  2. Competent in fall protection training

Position KPIs

  1. Accurate weekly reporting of toolbox talks for all projects and the shop
  2. Accurate AHA and JHA provide per scope as requested and on time
  3. Site visits to local projects once a week and national projects once a month
  4. Provide timely solutions for implementing safe working conditions on jobsites

Work Environment

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing some of the duties of this job, the employee is required to inspect projects and may be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.

The employee is required to have a clean workspace in the office. In an instance where the employee is working offsite, at home, at a hotel, etc., the employee is required to have a clean workspace for virtual meetings, internally or externally with clients, vendors, etc.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must also occasionally lift and move up to 15 pounds.

Specific vision abilities include close vision and color vision.

Position may require remaining in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods.

Personal Protective Equipment

Utilize PP&E in compliance with OSHA standard and per site specific safety programs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position (40 hours). Workdays are Monday through Friday, work times are dependent on department, projects, and supervisor’s request and approval. Occasional Saturday(s) upon request.
