WHAT WE OFFER. At the Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village, our mission is to cultivate leadership capacity. We offer free year-round programming to youth ages 5-17 in the Chicago, IL area. Our programs in Academics, Athletics, and the Arts are taught by local professionals who dedicate their time to reinvesting their skills and knowledge and giving back to the young people. By developing and investing in youth, we desire to transform Chicago into a just and equitable city. Our doors are open to everyone! Covering 10 different areas, we offer many different programs that youth can choose from. The 10 areas include: MUSIC | ART | MEDIA | HEALTH & WELLNESS | SPORTS | PERFORMING ARTS EDUCATION | TEEN CLUB | SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY.

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a passionate Art Teacher to join our team and inspire students in the world of creativity and artistic expression for our Summer Camp programs here at SBEV.

**Responsibilities:**

-Plan and lead daily art activities for students, including drawing, painting, sculpting, and other creative projects.

-Develop age-appropriate lesson plans that cater to the interests and skill levels of students.

-Provide instruction and guidance to students on various art techniques and mediums.

-Organize and maintain art supplies, ensuring they are well-stocked and organized throughout the camp session.

-Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages creativity and self-expression among students.

-Supervise students during art activities to ensure safety and adherence to camp rules.

-Collaborate with other camp staff to integrate art projects into overall camp programming.

-Communicate effectively with students, parents, and fellow staff members about art activities and student progress.

-Adapt lesson plans and activities as needed to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.

-Encourage students to showcase their artwork through exhibitions, galleries, or other opportunities within the camp community.

-Serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating enthusiasm for art and a passion for teaching.

-Assist with cleanup and organization of art spaces at the end of each day or session.

-Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other camp-related events as required.

-Maintain accurate records of student attendance, artwork, and other relevant information.

-Support overall camp operations and contribute to the camp community in various capacities as needed.

**Qualifications:**

- Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts or related field; Master's degree is a plus.

- Previous experience as an Art Teacher or in a similar role.

- Strong communication skills to effectively convey artistic concepts to students.

- Ability to inspire creativity and passion for the arts in students.

- Familiarity with educational technology to enhance teaching methods.
