Our programs in Academics, Athletics, and the Arts are taught by local professionals who dedicate their time to reinvesting their skills and knowledge and giving back to the young people. By developing and investing in youth, we desire to transform Flint into a just and equitable city. Our doors are open to everyone! Covering 10 different areas, we offer many different programs that youth can choose from. Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Martial Arts Teacher to join our team. The Martial Arts Teacher will be responsible for planning and leading engaging and educational martial arts classes for students of all ages and skill levels. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in martial arts, excellent teaching skills, and a dedication to promoting physical fitness, self-discipline, and personal growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and teach martial arts classes tailored to the age, skill level, and goals of students, incorporating a variety of techniques, drills, and exercises.
  • Provide instruction in martial arts disciplines such as karate, taekwondo, judo, jiu-jitsu, or aikido, depending on your expertise and the focus of the school.
  • Demonstrate proper form, technique, and safety protocols for martial arts movements and exercises, ensuring the well-being of students during training sessions.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages teamwork, respect, discipline, and perseverance among students.
  • Adapt teaching methods and lesson plans to accommodate the individual learning styles and needs of students, providing personalized feedback and guidance.
  • Promote physical fitness, coordination, flexibility, and overall well-being through martial arts training, emphasizing the importance of regular practice and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Incorporate elements of martial arts philosophy, history, and culture into classes, teaching students about the principles of respect, humility, integrity, and self-control.
  • Organize and oversee belt testing, promotions, and competitions, recognizing and celebrating the achievements and progress of students.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and fellow instructors regarding class schedules, curriculum updates, student progress, and special events.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Maintain a clean and safe training environment, ensuring that equipment and facilities are well-maintained and in compliance with safety standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to enhance teaching skills, deepen knowledge of martial arts disciplines, and stay current with industry trends and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Black belt or equivalent rank in a recognized martial arts discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching martial arts classes to students of various ages and skill levels.
  • Strong knowledge of martial arts techniques, principles, and traditions, as well as teaching methods and pedagogy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire, and engage students.
  • Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for working with students of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Certification in CPR and first aid (preferred).
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and complete any required certifications or training.
