Our programs in Academics, Athletics, and the Arts are taught by local professionals who dedicate their time to reinvesting their skills and knowledge and giving back to the young people. By developing and investing in youth, we desire to transform Flint into a just and equitable city. Our doors are open to everyone! Covering 10 different areas, we offer many different programs that youth can choose from. The 10 areas include: MUSIC | ART | MEDIA | HEALTH & WELLNESS | SPORTS | PERFORMING ARTS EDUCATION | TEEN CLUB | SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Pay for this position will be based on experience.

We are seeking a motivated and approachable Certified Reading Teacher to help inspire and collaborate with our youth and staff to help promote a positive and nurturing environment for our community. This person will communicate with other staff members and professionals outside the organization, therefore a heavy emphasis on professionalism is desired. This person will also work with students in setting goals, writing lesson plans, reporting metrics and collecting data to help foster growth within our students. This position will be Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm.

Duties:

  • Assists with the recruitment of volunteers from educational institutions to work with students
  • Corresponds with local schools/families regarding students academic performance and needs
  • Schedules 4 week goals with each student and monitor their success
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements for the individual needs
  • Create a positive and engaging learning environment for students
  • Utilize various teaching methods and techniques to accommodate different learning styles
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to create a cohesive educational experience
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and behavior
  • Reports weekly to the Director of Education regarding student achievement and needs
  • Acts as an advocate to student home schools and outside agencies as needed

Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree required from an Accredited University or College
  • Valid and Active Teaching Certificate within this current school year Strong educational background with the ability to educate students in various subjects
  • Knowledge of special education strategies and techniques for students with diverse learning needs
  • Understanding of childhood development principles and the ability to apply them in the classroom
  • Proficient in behavior management techniques to create a positive and respectful classroom environment
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Exudes respect and flexibility to impact the workplace in a positive manor
  • Detail oriented, consencios, and committed to precision in work results
