Welcome to our In Person Math Tutor Position Description!

Why did you first decide to become a Teacher or tutor? At the Sylvan Learning Center of Hamilton, directly across from the Princeton BMW dealership, we remember why. As an Instructor at Sylvan, your primary responsibilities are: just teaching. No developing lesson plans. As a part-time Sylvan Instructor, you will be trained on the Sylvan curriculum and given the tools to teach in a small group setting. You will provide personalized instruction in your areas of expertise. We are currently hiring for positive, nurturing and skilled Math teacher to provide instruction on a 3:1 or 1:1 student to teacher ratio. Teachers at Sylvan typically work 2-4 hours per day they are available.If you aspire to inspire, then we want you on our team.

As a successful Instructor, you will:

  • Teach math using Sylvan based programs (Algebra 1, 2 & Geometry is a requirement - precalc is also ideal)
  • Training for SAT/ACT prep is provided
  • Supervise, interact with and motivate students during instruction hour
  • Reward students using our established system
  • Evaluate and document student progress
  • Inspire and develop rapport with students and establish a fun learning environment

Reading/Writing: We are also currently hiring Middle to Upper level Reading/Writing teachers (includes training for SAT/ACT prep) to coach students in need of academic support after school and/or on weekends! (This is a position for the school year and can include this summer)

The center is open during the school year & extended summer hours. We are generally open for instruction: Monday-Thursday: 4-8pm, Saturday’s 9am-1pm, and Sunday's from 10-2

Please Apply if You Have:

  • An undergraduate degree
  • Teaching / tutoring experience (Teaching certification preferred but not required for upper level math teachers)
  • Must be reliable & professional
  • Retired teachers encouraged to apply

Initial and ongoing training/support is provided to all of our teachers.

Note: This position is in-person at our center in Hamilton, NJ on Quakerbridge Road. (not a remote position). Also, please consider your commuting time if you live more than 10-15 miles away from the center before applying.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
