About the Position:

As a Claims Specialist, Homeowner Liability, you will provide a fast and friendly claims experience as a desk adjuster to Swyfft’s policyholders and agents involving, homeowner liability claims. You’ll be responsible for managing and resolving non-litigated and litigated claims with the assistance of defense counsel. This is a fast-paced position that requires someone who is self-motivated and can operate independently to meet deadlines.

In this position, you will be responsible for handling claims files for dog bites, slip and falls, trip and falls, damage to other party’s property, and other homeowner liability claims.

*This position is a 100% remote U.S. based opportunity that can be based in one of the following states only: AL, AZ, CT, DE, FL, GA, KY, LA, MA, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI.

Some travel for day-to-day work, team meetings, and training will be required.

Key Responsibilities: (What you'll be asked to do)

  • Investigate, analyze, and determine the extent of liability concerning third-party homeowner claims.
  • Ensure that all assigned claims are resolved timely, reserved accurately, and handled according to company guidelines.
  • Review incoming lawsuits for proper handling and work with counsel to develop an appropriate litigation strategy to include coverage liability and damages.
  • Correspond and communicate with policyholders, agents, experts, and service providers to gather details and provide updates.
  • Evaluate coverage and damages owed under the policy to determine payment or prepare disclaimers as needed.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive claim handling notation and diary in our electronic claims management system and other related applications.

The Successful Candidate: (what we're looking for)

  • You come to us with a proven track record of handling homeowner liability claims.
  • You have a solid track record and understanding of third-party liability claims.
  • Previous exposure to adjusting matters in litigation is preferred. When necessary, you will partner with counsel to establish litigation strategy, ensure proper experts are retained, and assist with reducing risk exposure.
  • Both internal (your peers) and external clients commend your excellent verbal and written communication skills and the timeliness of your follow-up.
  • You're detail-oriented, organized, and can multi-task like nothing anyone has ever seen before.
  • You're a get the job done, self-starter that thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Some Requirements:

  • You are currently licensed or eligible for licensing as an adjuster in the states of: AL, CA, FL, LA, IL, MA, NJ, NY,TX (we provide assistance with your licensing fees).
  • 7 years experience as a desk adjuster in the homeowner liability field, including at least 3 years of general liability experience.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent (GED) is required.

Computer Skills:

  • Must be proficient with MS Office and other internal insurance related programs, systems or applications. (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Experience using independent litigation management platforms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using programs such as Slack & MSTeams. You are comfortable sharing screens and video chatting.
