Job Details

DEVOPS ENGINEER
Hybrid / Remote
The DevOps II Engineer provides a superior level of technical knowledge and skill related to conventional development and operational practices. These practices may include a variety of complex features when developing, validating, deploying, and maintaining software systems. Superior problem-solving skills are necessary as new operating processes and methods of operation are developed in achieving the goal of providing effective, affordable, and reliable systems. Must be able to make independent decisions and represent the organization when dealing with customers, vendors, and industry peers. Plan and coordinate projects spanning several departments with limited supervision. Maintains DevOps Best Practices and OTP Development Standards. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work is the result of progressive experience. Provides guidance
to team members regarding project objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy issues. This position is a promotion from the DevOps I Engineer role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Application Development
  • Validate system integrity using DevOps tools for automated testing of deployable components.
  • Contribute to definition of OTP standard Build process for deployment, and configuration management.
  • Design automation for Build process.
  • Evaluate and assess Release performance.
  • Contribute to cloud security design in keeping with the OTP security strategy.
  • Contribute to OTP policies, practices, and standards for development, source code control, and change management.
  • Research, analyze, define requirements, and make recommendations for software solutions.
  • Design, develop, validate, document, and implement software solutions.
  • Demonstrate expertise with Azure cloud platform, services, and tools.
  • Revise existing programs to improve operational efficiency and to integrate new application features and requirements.
  • Collaborate with department members to define the scope of projects.
  • Perform needs assessment and cost/benefit analysis when defining options.
  • Validate developed code changes with department members to ensure they match with defined requirements within scope. Define and develop operational and validation processes to confirm the reliability and availability of the various systems. Create and update documentation for applications and configuration as necessary.
Application Support
  • Monitor system availability.
  • Report necessary maintenance needs to the appropriate staff as practical.
  • Work with department members to resolve problems and provide training as needed.
  • Provide response and resolution of production issues in keeping with SLA s.
  • Apply updates to deployed code and configurations as approved and necessary.
Departmental Expectations
  • Stay current on technology trends and offer ideas that may improve existing processes for the department, IT and the company.
  • Communicate status of projects to stakeholders as needed.
  • Inform users when updates or changes are taking place that may impact their job duties.
  • Must be knowledgeable of technology operations and architecture, databases, programming languages, file structure, flowcharting, data modeling, data security, cyber security, networking, and other DevOps related technologies.
  • Understand how department members use application features to satisfy business functions.
  • Use DevOps Best Practices and OTP Standards to develop the software and architecture to support the business requirements of the company.
  • Work within the budget and time constraints of the project and department.
  • Follow procurement processes to purchase the necessary hardware/software/services.
  • Represent OTP in meetings and conferences to resolve important technical issues.
  • Work with 3rd party vendors as needed.
  • Provide expertise to other staff members and business user departments.
  • Understand and comply with regulatory requirements as needed.
  • Must have knowledge of and promote safety rules and company policies.
  • Provide a weekly report and other progress reports as necessary.
  • Attend training classes as needed.
  • Travel as needed.
  • Work outside of normal business hours on occasion, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of DevOps terms, and principals with a demonstrated superior level of technical knowledge.
  • Must be proficient in the generally accepted programming languages and database designs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to work effectively with personnel at all levels.
