A Data Engineer, or Data Systems Engineer, is responsible for developing and maintaining data processing software. Duties include coordinating with leaders and other professionals to create unique data infrastructure, running tests on their designs to isolate errors and updating systems to accommodate changes in company needs.

Responsibilities

In addition to creating and maintaining an optimal pipeline architecture, typical duties and responsibilities for a Data Engineer position may include: 

  • Work with large, complex sets of data.
  • Identify, design and implement internal process improvements to improve scalability, optimize data ETL, and automate manual processes
  • Building required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources using Azure and SQL technologies
  • Work with foundation, product, data teams to support data infrastructure needs while assisting with data-related technical issues 
  • Organization-wide data governance activities and operationalizing the data strategy to achieve the required level of maturity, quality, compliance, and retention objectives for Suzy.
  • Responsible for the protection of sensitive data and information assets while focusing on the adherence of an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices, for all business and functional areas. 
  • Work closely with Business and Technical leadership to improve the quality and value of core data assets, respond to regulatory protection requirements as well as support the strategic requirements of the department.
