Sutter County Human Resources is Hiring an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I Near Yuba, CA

This is a continuous recruitment; applications submitted will be reviewed on a bi-weekly basis. We will continue to accept applications until the position is filled. 
Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of technical office and field engineering work including providing design assistance, performing drafting duties, and assisting professional engineering staff in civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, or instrumentation support work; performs engineering support work involving labor compliance, traffic usage analysis, plan and map checking, surveying, construction administration and inspection, AutoCAD drafting, and condition compliance and conformance; and issues permits and determines required fees.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill any future opening(s) of this classification or other similar classifications, including Part-Time and Extra Help, for up to six months. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned. 
  1. Learn to perform a wide variety of drafting and engineering drawing work from field survey notes, property descriptions and construction notes using both manual and computer assisted drawing equipment and standard applications software.
  2. Makes a variety of engineering computations including tabulation of data and preparation of tables, charts, graphs, and other display presentations.
  3. Learns to perform technical engineering studies and design work for engineering projects that involve the independent collection and routine analysis of data.
  4. Answers a variety of routine inquiries by providing information shown on maps and in office files which may include researching deeds for easements, right-of-way restrictions, and other restrictions on the use of property and parcels.
  5. Receives and assists the public by providing information on the more routine questions pertinent to the programs of the section which may involve the researching of records for liens, location of property lines and easements.
  6. Learns to calculate and compute quantities and costs of material for a variety of construction projects.
  7. Learns to utilize a variety of automated equipment and software applications in support of technical engineering activities involving data entry, data retrieval, database manipulation, layout and design of screens and reports, report generation, and computer assisted drawing.
  8. Maintains, updates, and revises a variety of records, files, maps and other resource materials; compiles statistics and data for periodic reports and tabulations.
  9. Assists with the compilation, organization, input and interpretation of data for automated GIS system activities.
  10. Learns to inspect the construction of public improvements for compliance with plans and specifications.
  11. Maintains and prepares job records, including quantities, payments, change orders, and all records required by law.
  12. Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
  13. Performs related duties as assigned.
The following are the minimum qualifications for this position. Possession of these qualifications does not ensure that an applicant will be interviewed. Applications will be reviewed in comparison with all other applications received. 
Knowledge of: Basic principles of technical engineering, drafting, and designing; mathematics necessary to perform routine engineering calculations; modern office methods, equipment, and procedures; principles of customer service.
 
Ability to: Learn to perform technical engineering tasks in support of public works projects including surveying, drafting, map checking, and inspection; learn to consult with contractors and outside engineering staff to determine compliance with approved plans, specifications and County standards; learn to prepare analyses and reports; maintain records; learn pertinent local, State, Federal and County laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; learn to use a variety of equipment and software packages commonly used in the engineering field; develop and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted through the course of work.
 
Education and Experience: Any combination of education, training and/or experience which substantially provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to acquire these would be completion of an Associate's degree from an accredited college with major course work in engineering or related field and one year of technical engineering experience, preferably involving public works facilities or structures work.Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:
 Requires the ability to perform on-site field inspections including exertion of a moderate amount of physical effort to stoop, crouch, climb and lift in the performance of assigned duties; ability to work around construction materials in a safe manner; may be subject to uncomfortable working conditions including exposure to dust, noise, heat or cold; must be able to perceive color, shapes and forms; requires sufficient hand/eye coordination and perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as drafting, drawing, data entry, and/or use of other office equipment or supplies; requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
 
License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
