Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority is Hiring a Customer Service - Front Desk Near Middletown, PA

Job Description

This person is responsible for welcoming guests, tenants, business partners, co-workers and those calling the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA). SARAA owns and operates a system of four airports: Harrisburg International in Middletown, Capital City Executive in New Cumberland, Franklin County Regional near Chambersburg and Gettysburg Regional in Gettysburg. To most, the person serving in this position is the first—and to some, the only—point of contact with the airport and the airport authority.

This person will be based at Harrisburg International Airport working primarily at the welcome/reception desk in the authority offices. This person will also work at the Customer Information Desk in baggage claim and in the Susquehanna Club—the airport run frequent flier lounge.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Generate a positive and friendly first and last impression of the airport system to those who call and visit the airport authority offices at Harrisburg International Airport.
  • Greet all visitors with a smile and notify appropriate staff of their arrival.
  • Normal business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on non-holidays.
  • Some occasional evening and weekend hours may be needed for special events.
  • Efficiently answer telephone calls to the authority during normal business hours.
  • Direct telephone calls to the appropriate staff (and/or take messages) during normal business hours.
  • Position requires that employee be at desk, ready to open the office and answer phones at 8:30 am
  • A 30-minute lunch break and two 10-minute break periods will be taken in coordination with the other customer service associates at the Information Desk and/or Susquehanna Club.
  • Open and distribute mail daily.
  • Sign for and receive overnight or registered deliveries (Fed-Ex, UPS, USPS, etc.)
  • Monitor performance of common use office equipment and notify appropriate Airport staff when service is needed.
  • Assist with accounting department functions as needed—mail invoices, process incoming checks, etc.
  • Locate, copy and distribute newspaper articles for the SARAA Board Members twice a month.
  • Perform complementary customer service functions consistent with airport customer service standards at the authority welcome/reception desk, and when needed, at the Customer Information Desk and in the Susquehanna Club.
  • Update and publish the airport authority phone list.
  • Manage the certificate of insurance process to assist the airport properties department.
  • Distribute and collect job applications from prospective future employees.
  • Performs any other duty or assignment delegated by proper authority.
  • Monitor inventory of office supplies, order needed supplies and distribute items on a regular basis.
  • Candidate needs to be a willing member of a customer service team, flexible and adaptable to change.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Must have a High School Diploma or GED and two years of related work experience

Required Licenses, Certificates, Conditions:

A valid PA driver’s license with a good driving record or ability to obtain PA license within 30 days of hire date. Ability to pass a 10-year background and criminal investigation in order to be issued Airport Identification Badge.

Cognitive Ability:

Ability to comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions. Must exercise good judgment, work independently, make decisions, organize and maintain detailed information. Must effectively set priorities. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations without precedent.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

This position requires an individual who has the ability to communicate orally and in writing clearly, juggle multiple phone lines at one time while compassionately dealing with the general public. Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.

Language and Communications Skills:

Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, shift personnel, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

Knowledge of basic math skills.

Computer Skills:

Strong understanding of MicrosoftWord and Excel, typing, data entry, and clerical capabilities, as well as the ability to navigate the Internet and SARAA’s Intranet.
