Surgery Scheduler- Surgical Services- Full Time- Day Shift

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Surgery Scheduler tasks include scheduling surgeries and procedures with physicians’ offices, including cancellations and rescheduling; reviewing charts and processing charges for patient accounts; and other tasks to support surgery. Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills are necessary for interactions with surgeons, surgeons’ offices, residents, surgery staff and various other departments within the hospital.

 PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurately, efficiently and completely schedules / reschedules/ cancels procedures for customers.
  • Effectively and efficiently communicates with internal and external customers about confidential and sensitive issues via phone.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers using email program.
  • Provide friendly, professional customer service in person, via phone and in written communication.
  • Use medical records software (e.g., Stockcamp, Solcom) to assist / respond to other health system departments.
  • Produce spreadsheets at request of manager using a variety of software programs.
  • Review, correct, process and follows up on patient charges as necessary.
  • Handle department mail and ordering of office, warehouse and Document Center supplies. Research cost of supply items at request of staff.
  • Collaborate with other staff to improve efficiencies / processes.
  • Effectively work in a team environment and assists others to achieve department goals.
  • Flexibility to cover department responsibilities during absence of other staff.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

 CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • None

 PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and accurate spelling.
  • Keyboarding skills at least 50 wpm.
  • Ability to operate office machines, e.g., telephone, calculator, fax, copier, printers, and other general-purpose office equipment efficiently and accurately..
