Quality Engineer Job Description

Position Summary:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the client's products and services meet established standards of quality, encompassing reliability, usability, and performance. They play a key role in translating customer requirements into actionable controls to achieve quality objectives. Collaborating with engineers, supervisors, managers, production personnel, suppliers, and customers, the Quality Engineer resolves quality issues, supports team goals, and advocates quality principles. This role drives continuous improvement and optimization of manufacturing processes to align with short and long-term plans, implementing changes that enhance safety, quality, and productivity. The Quality Engineer designs automated testing systems and quality control workflows to streamline the quality assurance process and collects data to troubleshoot errors and drive quality initiatives through lean methodologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the company's quality inspection and product release programs for incoming and in-process materials, components, processes, and finished goods.
  • Perform visual and/or cosmetic inspections of products following established procedures, utilizing appropriate light sources, and addressing equipment issues promptly.
  • Ensure timely completion and closure of quality records.
  • Utilize quality tools such as process flowcharting, Pareto analysis, statistical process control, and trend analysis to implement improvements.
  • Serve as a customer liaison, addressing quality complaints and clarifying customer requirements.
  • Develop inspection criteria connecting customer requirements with manufacturing processes, including key characteristics and associated sampling plans.
  • Monitor engineering production processes for adherence to internal and external standards.
  • Participate in pre- and post-production launch reviews, providing vital Quality Engineering support.
  • Conduct quality reviews, internal audits, and data analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards to optimize quality within equipment capabilities.
  • Review and approve product/process change requests and drawings to evaluate quality requirements.
  • Support measurement and analysis of key metrics to monitor performance and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve production and quality issues.
  • Reinforce safety expectations and ensure safety practices are demonstrated and reported as needed.
  • Uphold quality and compliance by adhering to all procedures and work instructions per Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements.
  • Maintain compliance of the QMS, managing and maintaining all controlled document files and test records per ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by Quality Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S) (Required)
  • Any Quality Certification (Preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with ISO 9001 and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Trained and/or 2 years' experience leading Continuous Improvement & Kaizen projects.
  • Trained with 3 years experienced with AIAG core tools.
  • Experience working with suppliers, conducting audits, and interpreting quality requirements.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and CAD inspection reports.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, E2, Plex).
  • Ability to work independently or in a group setting, demonstrating self-drive and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) practices is a plus.
  • Knowledge of tooling & molding processes, GD&T, CMM operation, and SolidWorks is advantageous.

Work Environment:

This role operates in an office/manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment, mechanical parts, and associated hazards. The position requires physical activities such as walking, sitting, standing, bending, driving, reading, seeing, hearing, speaking, concentrating, and communicating effectively.
