The WB Day Camp Surf Instructor's primary duties are to work with a team of other instructors providing daily surf instruction to groups of participants, supervise participants for the duration of the half day camp, provide feedback and answer questions to parents of participants, and facilitate the set up and breakdown of the camp area in Wrightsville Beach each day.

Qualified candidates should know how to surf, have the ability to arrive on the beach every weekday morning, be well spoken and professional, comfortable speaking in front of a group of people, and have a passion for surfing and the ocean. Applicants should have the availability to work 7am to 12pm, Monday - Friday, from May 24 to August 16.

Core Responsibilities:

• Present, lead and supervise hands-on, educational activities on topics such as: wave dynamics, ocean safety, surf etiquette, rip currents, barrier island and salt marsh ecology
• Complete all pre and post session tasks, including but not limited to reviewing camp binder, preparing supplies and inventory
• Put participant needs before own; get to know each participant, make all feel welcome and accepted
• Serve as positive role model, display maturity, responsibility, flexibility, and sound judgment
• Assist with the driving of camp vehicles
• Assist with coordination of arrival/departure of campers
• Ensure a safe place (both emotionally and physically) for all staff and campers

The candidate for this position must meet the following criteria:

• Able to work on the 4th of July
• Hold current certifications or be willing to obtain prior to start of contract: Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid
• At least 18 years of age
• 3 years of surfing experience minimum (coaching experience not required)
• Familiarity with southeastern NC marine ecosystems and organisms
• Ability to accept and give constructive criticism
• Energetic, extroverted, morning person with a positive attitude
• Must be in excellent physical condition able to lift 50lbs unassisted
• Ability to pass a 500-yard open-ocean swim test tread water for at least 10 minutes
• Able to pass a government background check, possess a U.S. driver’s license, and have a clean driving record
• Experience in marine science, environmental education, summer camps, or related fields is a plus
• Teaching/coaching experience in any field is a plus

• Our mandatory staff training will start on Thursday, May 23rd - May 31st. Monday - Friday and then we will roll right into our camps. First day of camp is June 3rd. Camps will run Monday - Friday from 7:30am - 4:30 PM until August 16th. Will we have your full commitment?
