*Supreme Staffing Agency is hiring for this position on behalf of Naval Supply Systems Command*

This position is located in the Longshoring Branch, Ocean Terminals Division, Operations Department, NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Pearl Harbor (FLCPH). The primary purpose of the position is to transport cargo using motor vehicles to include truck tractors and trailers with gross vehicle weight (GVW) exceeding 32,000 pounds. The position also performs longshoring, material handling, and cargo documentation duties in support of Ocean Terminals operations.

Transports cargo on government installations, public roads and state highways by operating motor vehicles that include straight-in-line trucks and truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers coupled by use of a turntable (fifth wheel) or pintle (pivot) hook. Vehicles may have gasoline, LPG, or diesel-powered engines; have two or more gear ranges capable of providing six or more forward speeds; and are usually equipped with air brakes. May transport hazardous material, assuring compliance with all Federal, state, and base requirements. Drives and/or guides tactical vehicles on and off barges and roll on/roll off vessels. Provides on-site inspection of vehicles as required. Performs inspections and operator maintenance on all vehicles operated (e.g. monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections, checking for loose parts, battery condition, and similar type checks). Employee will wash vehicles on a regular basis. Maintains trip records/vehicle logs showing time of departure, sequence of stops, time of return, mileage or hour meter readings, and other related data. Completes and submits monthly vehicle mileage and maintenance reports to designated reporting officials. Signs for materials and obtains signature of consignee when required. Immediately reports accidents, vehicle or cargo damage, and traffic violations to the appropriate personnel. (55%)

Performs, assists with, or directs the loading and unloading of vehicles. Operates a forklift to move, store or load supplies, materials or equipment. Determines the manner and sequence of loading cargo to achieve load balance and adequate protection for fragile items. Secures the cargo with appropriate tie-downs or covers to prevent shifting and to protect the load. Marks dangerous or protruding cargo with flags, placards, or reflection lights as required. Exercises caution when backing to load or unload at docks, ramps, and similar locations. Checks material loaded or delivered against various documents to prevent errors and to certify the quantity and condition of the items.

Performs longshoring, material handling, and cargo documentation duties to include signalman (hatch tender), longshoreman and transit shed tasks. Receives, handles and processes import/export cargo. Lashes, blocks and braces cargo to secure cargo inside vans and on trailers, flatracks, or containers. Stages import/export cargo on wharf or other designated area, in such a manner as to prevent damage and to facilitate efficient, sequential loading/unloading. Palletizes, lashes, ties down, blocks, braces, and secures a variety of cargo including heavy, commercial and tactical machines, vehicles, palletized provisions, hazardous material, and general stores on ship’s decks or holds. Uses cables, chains, binders, wires, ropes, chocks, cleats, dunnage, axle braces, turnbuckles, and clamps to perform work. Packs items in cases, crates and boxes as necessary and loads cargo nets. Operates conveyors, hand trucks, and lift trucks to move cargo between locations. Hooks up material for lifting by crane or ship’s tackle using rope, wire rope, nylon soft slings, chain slings, spreaders and/or hooks. Guides load to prevent it from swinging and striking other objects. Does the reverse operation on vessel or barge discharge. Must be coordinated to manage the movement of married wire whips moving both laterally and vertically in and out of cargo hatches from ship’s deck to pier or pier to ship’s deck. The incumbent must be alert to the needs of the production and staging areas to plan load movements to coincide with the workflow. Supports Riggers as needed. In support of Transit Shed Operations, offloads/loads truck-vans or trailers; checks, repalletizes, and reconciles cargo; stuffs/unstuffs sea vans, etc. (20%)

Operates forklifts up to 56,000 pounds capacity, warehouse tractors up to 4000 pound, and Government vehicles in the performance of work. Performs freight documentation tasks to include computer input. May be assigned responsibility for Wood Packaging Material or act as a custodian for the Division security cage, checking and documenting material daily. Performs minor woodwork in opening and closing crates for inspection. Incumbent must be able to operate power tools such as chain saws, radial arm saws, circular saws and pneumatic nailers. De-nails, sorts, and stacks dunnage. Collects, sorts, and stacks pallets for reuse. Performs general housekeeping chores, including sweeping of floors). Assists in the training of Reserve personnel and other augmentees assigned to the Division to support operations/exercises. (20%)
