Description

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

General Management

  • Act as the immediate Supervisor for the 2nd Shift.
  • Achieve individual weekly and monthly machine goals as designated by the Production Manager.
  • Ensure that data for machine efficiency and production is captured properly (Entered by Operators correctly).
  • Ensure that work begins on time and crew is present and properly accounted for.

Review New Orders

  • Review New Orders to ensure that equipment is set up properly, conduct quality control tests as necessary.
  • Conduct training as necessary for new orders.
  • Report problems with new Orders to the Production Manager.

Scheduling the workflow

  • Receive the 2nd Shift schedule from the Scheduler.
  • Assign crews to machines.
  • Distribute masters to the appropriate machines based on the routing designated .
  • Schedule machine line up by priority of customer needs or most efficient setup sequence.
  • Change the order of work to be completed for each machine to maintain maximum productivity.
  • Coordinate with the Production Manager regarding special needs and “hot orders”.
  • Note any necessary changes on Plant Masters.

Quality Control

  • Be personally present in the production area to promote quality control, training and cross training of individual “line” employees.
  • Act as floor Supervisor, if unable to perform the duties of Supervisor (Have to fill in for an individual machine operator for example) notify the Plant Manager.
  • Ensure that our products are produced according to specifications
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production problems.
  • Train Operators and crew on WHY something needs to be done a certain way (Train rather than be a “watchdog”).
  • Promote quality within the workforce, embody accountability for production.
  • Hold each individual operator responsible for the quality of work his crew produces.
  • Hold each operator accountable for quality deviations produced by another crew earlier in the production process, in this way quality is continually reassessed as the product moves through the production area from machine to machine.
  • Ensure that production is for the proper quantity.
  • Ensure that product is packaged/strapped and palletized according to customer direction.
  • Resolve individual customer complaints and improve plant processes as required so that mistakes will not be unnecessarily repeated. Ensure that production workers are informed of their errors so that they can learn from their mistakes.

Maintenance and Repair

  • Monitor the maintenance of all production related equipment and machinery, initiate work orders and coordinate repairs with the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Page the Maintenance Supervisor or Mechanic on call in the event of major equipment failure which will adversely affect the production schedule of necessary or high priority jobs on the night shift, or of equipment which should be repaired prior to the commencement of the day shift.
  • Ensure that all production areas are clean and well maintained.
  • Ensure that the Night Shift properly cleans all equipment including that used by the Day Shift.
  • Provide training to ensure maximum efficiency of production with minimum maintenance of machinery.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE: Minimum four years hands-on experience in these or related functions

EDUCATION: Minimum four-year degree or vocational certification in this field, or exceptional direct experience
