JOB SUMMARY:

The Engineering Manager leads the STC Material Solutions Hermetics Division technical team. This entails driving new development projects to completion, mentoring, training, developing engineers, customer interfacing, and creating robust technical redundancies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Leads the Engineering team through data gathering, analysis, problem-solving, and project management activities.
• Initiates process improvements through continuous improvement techniques that support quality improvements, cycle time reductions, cost reductions, and other activities aimed at reducing/eliminating non-value-added work.

• Responsible for developing and preparing process improvements and accountable for leading instruction, facilitating team decisions, managing teamwork, resolving conflict, assisting with implementation, and conducting required follow-up.

• Guides and mentors’ other engineers to increase their technical prowess
• Acts as a key technical communication resource for Business Development.
• Works with Applications Engineering to develop optimization opportunities to increase our success with our customers.
• Manages the transition of product design and development for new or existing products from customer designs to manufacturing. Supports and assists internal development projects to ensure a smooth transition into full production with robust, controlled processes.
• Actively influences working culture to achieve high levels of engagement by all employees.
• Increase manufacturing capability by driving new and novel use of our existing equipment and through the selective acquisition and implementation of new complementary capabilities.

• Works with Manufacturing Engineers and Supply Chain to ensure we have the best suppliers and utilize them as effectively as possible.
• Primary liaison for strategic customer projects in the development phase.
• Manages and drives multiple development projects through completion in a schedule-constrained environment
• Serves as technical expert for the division
• Other duties as required

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 10 years engineering experience working within a manufacturing environment.
• Master’s degree a plus
• Material joining or similar technology experience in processing or product development.
• Strong, clear, and effective written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with the operation of production equipment
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Excellent time management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage the technical aspects of process support and the ability to develop new processes.
• Experience in supporting specifications and commissioning complex processing equipment
• Strong hands-on and willingness to work on day-to-day needs with a diverse work team.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is normally performed on site at STC’s office in Santa Ana, California. Work hours will vary depending on production needs. Some work is performed on the climate-controlled production floor, which can be noisy. Proper safety equipment is provided by STC where necessary. Desk work is performed in a climate-controlled environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work involves standing and walking on cement floors throughout the day. Some desk time working at the computer can be expected, but the emphasis will be on walking the floor to ensure that the production schedule is being maintained. Deadlines, workloads during peak periods and changing priorities may cause increased stress levels. Work may include occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing approximately 40 pounds such as baskets or parts.
