Project Superintendent - Industrial Flooring Position Description

Learn more about us at www.gosuperior.com As the Superintendent – Industrial Floor Coatings, you will lead a diverse team of industrial painters, concrete restoration specialists, and finishers to complete large flooring projects in industrial and manufacturing facilities successfully. You will work with the industry’s best industrial painters and project managers to provide an essential service to critical industries. You will be responsible for leading multiple field crews to properly prepare and install a wide variety of floor coating and lining systems. Additional responsibilities include:
Must have 5 years of direct experience estimating, staffing, managing, and profitably completing industrial floor coating and secondary containment projects of all sizes in the food manufacturing, power, pharmaceutical, or chemical process industries (or related) – specifically as it applies to urethane cement and epoxy floor coverings, geotextile linings, concrete surface preparation and repair, and related flooring and lining systems.
The ideal candidate will have proven past experience working directly with “tools on” as well as in site supervision and project management.
Must have experience managing multiple projects and field crews simultaneously with the “mix” of projects ranging from mid-five to seven-figure project values.
Industrial field experience should come from the power, chemical, petrochemical, heavy manufacturing, water/wastewater, or food process manufacturing industries.
Minimum two (2) years of experience with industrial coatings and sandblasting (in addition to flooring systems) is strongly preferred. Experience in scaffolding, insulation, or abatement is a plus. NACE Level 1 certification is a strong plus.
Experienced in craft recruiting and capable of leveraging your local knowledge to assist Superior’s Operations and HR departments in building out a local workforce supporting the projects you will manage.
Demonstrated success in pre-construction planning, budgeting, scheduling, project controls, and asset utilization.
Effective at managing projects for maximum profitability and, in partnership with the Finance team, capable of analyzing the financial results of the field operations and using these analyses to bring about continuous improvement.
A strong customer service mindset with a desire to exceed our client’s expectations regarding the quality of our work and our on-time and on-budget performance.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, strong leadership skills, a comfort level with change, and the ability to lead change.
Ability to interpret regulatory requirements (federal, state, and local) and apply them to the workplace. Strong working knowledge of government regulations (i.e., OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.) is a plus.
Available for up to 50% travel, including weekends, within the assigned project management
territory, as needed.
Job Qualifications and Certifications:
Successfully manage/leading subcontractors, crew members and foremen in a complex construction and/or contracting environment including plant shutdowns
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interface with key client personnel with a customer service mindset.
Ability to assess safety hazards on job sites and always follow safe work practices.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects including consistently meeting or exceeding established profitability, scheduling and quality targets.
Strong oral and written communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
Experience in the application of specialty coatings.
Ability to travel extensively across the United States and work weekends/holidays.
Experience leading, motivating and managing various project and program team sizes, including internal and external resources, while holding team accountable for performance.
Self-motivated, decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands.
Basic Knowledge of MS Office applications is required.
