We have an executive leadership opportunity for Chief Deputy of Legal Services / General Counsel. This position will be located at the Historic Court in downtown Riverside, CA. We are seeking candidates who have experience providing advice and counsel to judicial officers, executives, and management while overseeing all court litigation related matters.
The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited college or university and have seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, including a minimum of one (1) year managing a professional legal staff in a public or private setting. Current active membership and in good standing with the State Bar of California, is required.

Competitive Compensation Package
The Court is proud to offer a generous compensation package which includes:
  • A generous and competitive salary dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
  • Participation in a CalPERS Retirement Pension Program, The Public Employee’s Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) will determine retirement tier eligibility. For questions regarding tier eligibility, please contact CalPERS at 1-888-CalPERS (1-888-225-7377).
  • A comprehensive welfare benefit plan which includes nine HMO and two PPO options, Dental DHMO and PPO and employer paid Vision coverage.

Human Resources will review applications to identify candidates who meet the minimum qualifications; therefore, it is to your benefit to include all current and previous related work experience. When listing Court experience, please include dates and classification of each position held, if more than one.
Selection Procedures:
Candidates are invited to submit an online application by August 6, 2023 at 11:59pm. First round interviews will take place at the end of August. The successful candidate will begin their duties in October 2023.
All applications will be reviewed to identify candidates who meet the minimum qualifications; those candidates deemed most qualified may be invited to an online or written assessment, if applicable.
Candidates who take and successfully pass the assessment may be invited to an oral panel interview. Candidates who are successful in the interview may be placed on an eligible list. Placement on an eligible list is not a guarantee of employment.
Additional steps for the selection process will include a drug test, background and reference checks.

MEDICAL PLAN and Dental PLAN
The Court offers medical and dental plans.
Employees may waive the Court-offered Medical and Hospital Plan, if they provide proof of other current "group" health plan coverage.
MEDICAL FLEXIBLE BENEFIT PROGRAM
The Court contributes an amount each month, which is determined by the "Type of Enrollment" on behalf of each regular employee in a paid status, who is enrolled in one of the medical and hospital plans provided by the Superior Court of California, County of Riverside.
VISION PLAN
As a member of the Executive Team group the Court pays for vision, up to full family coverage.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN
The Court contributes $50.00 per pay period to a 401A plan. There are two 457 voluntary enrollment plans available.
ANNUAL LEAVE
Employees in this job class accrue annual leave; pro-rated if less than full time.
SHORT TERM / LONG TERM DISABILITY
The Court offers short-term disability/long term disability insurance.
LIFE INSURANCE
The Court on behalf of the employees pays a basic term life insurance and a basic Spouse/Dependent Life Insurance policy, if applicable.
RETIREMENT
Participation in Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS).
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)
EAP is a benefit provided by Superior Court of California, County of Riverside for all employees.
HOLIDAYS
Generally fourteen days per year. Employees are entitled to eight (8) hours of holiday pay for each court recognized holiday.
