The Server Administrator will install, maintain, and support open systems servers. Responsible for troubleshooting server and network problems. Maintains and supports enterprise and departmental application, database, file, and web servers. Maintains and supports networked infrastructure components, including virtualization platforms, DNS, Active Directory, LDAP, application delivery controllers or load balancers, enterprise backup, and/or blade system. Maintains working knowledge of industry products, practices, and technologies. Responsible for familiarity with best practices for systems administration, including security, backups, performance tuning, monitoring, and scripting. Monitor and maintain servers to prevent user downtime. Reviews server configuration and performance regularly, and address potential issues before they affect users. Patches and/or upgrade systems to ensure compatibility and compliance. Communicates system changes or issues with application owners and stakeholders. Works with vendors and other support teams to perform maintenance with minimal impact to users. Provides users with timely response to requests.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related area and three (3) years relevant experience or Associates degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related area and five (5) years relevant experience along with strong analytic, interpersonal skills and customer service orientation required. Ability to provide after hours support by telephone or remote connection.
**Candidates who possess a Bachelor's degree in a computer related field (or an Associate’s in a computer related field and a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience) may be considered for appointment to a lower level position at a commensurate salary.
Familiarity with Layer 2 networking concepts and troubleshooting, virtualization platforms, cloud technologies, DNS, Active Directory, and scripting preferred.
