Job Description:

The Research Analyst is a half-time, three year grant funded position in the Office of Institutional Research and Data Analytics at SUNY System Administration located in Albany, NY. The position will provide both quantitative and qualitative analysis support to assess the outcomes of primary caregiver student parents within the SUNY Advancing Success in Associate Pathways (ASAP) replication. The Research Analyst will conduct targeted matched comparison analyses of student academic outcomes as well as qualitative evaluations such as surveys, one-on-one interviews, and focus groups. A primary focus of the Research Analyst's work will be to support data collection and analysis for student-parents participating in the ASAP at select community colleges receiving additional support beyond usual program resources to ensure steeping retention and timely graduation. This grant-funded position reports directly to the Associate Provost for Institutional Research and Data Analytics or her designee and will work closely with SUNY's Office of Student Success.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to student demographics, student achievement, and other key performance metrics.
  • Conduct quantitative research studies, particularly related to student-parents participating in the ASAP Replication Initiative.
  • Conduct qualitative research studies such as surveys, one-on-one interviews, and focus groups.
  • Interpret and present preliminary research findings to team members and other stakeholders.
  • Assist the student success and institutional research teams with the collection, coding, and organization of large datasets that will be used to inform both system and campus-level decision-making.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for data in a timely and accurate manner.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail and excellent data management skills.
  • Superior ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Strong written and oral skills in presenting data findings to varied audiences.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience developing databases, highly desired.
  • Master's degree with experience working in an applied research setting.
  • Experience analyzing, querying, manipulating, and extracting data from large databases using SQL in an applied research or educational setting.
  • Formal training in research and evaluation methods with a strong understanding of statistical concepts.
  • Experience employing qualitative and quasi-experimental quantitative research methods in program evaluation (e.g., propensity score matching, linear regression, and logistic regression).
  • Advanced proficiency using statistical software (SPSS or R) to analyze and manipulate large data sets with complex structures.

Additional Information:

Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The part-time salary range for this position is $28,000 - $34,000.
