Description of Department:

The Office of Business and Community Relations, a SUNY Oswego initiative, is located in the heart of downtown Oswego and offers diversified programs to local residents and organizations through education, engagement and events that support and enhance campus and community relations and provide a positive impact.

The Research Foundation for SUNY on behalf of the Office of Business & Community Relations at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a Training Specialist.

While the position is located at SUNY Oswego, this is not a New York State position. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Compensation: Minimum salary $48,000 (commensurate with qualifications and experience).

Description of Responsibilities:

The Training Specialist in the Office of Business and Community Relations will facilitate and deliver professional development courses for a multifaceted, state-wide training program. They will design and develop training by combining creativity, research, and analysis of existing materials. Additionally, they will schedule curriculum, oversee enrollment, program logistics, and manage course evaluations to assess training effectiveness. Other reporting and administrative tasks are required as needed. Those who enjoy working with people, researching personal and professional development topics, and presenting that information to an audience may be a good fit for this role.

The Training Specialist job responsibilities will also include:

  • Participate in the instruction and presentation of training courses and assess how effective different methods and materials are at encouraging interaction and participation.
  • Develop training materials by completing thorough research and assessing the professional development needs of state staff.
  • Organize a training curriculum and materials that honors agency ethics and adhere to current best practices in education and training.
  • Prepare training locations by ensuring instructors have all of the tools, technical equipment, and resources needed to teach a course effectively.
  • Oversee a training certification program, which includes general administrative duties such as coordinating enrollment, scheduling class times and locations, publicity, recruitment, and sending invitation information to trainees.
  • Providing support to training team members to achieve target goals while maintaining the highest standards.
  • Updating and managing d digital files for the program.
  • The Training Specialist will report to the Associate Director and may have other duties assigned. Occasional overnight travel and evening and weekend work will be required.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree by time of appointment
  • 1-3 years of demonstrated success delivering in-person and virtual curriculum, presentations, and workshops.
  • Management/Supervisory experience
  • Experience developing curricula, training, and/or presentation materials.
  • Familiarity with best practices in education, training, and professional development and ability to stay current on new training methods and techniques
  • Excellent communication, writing, and public speaking skills
  • Computer literacy, including competency in Microsoft Office products and virtual communication platforms, such as WebEx.
  • Motivated, self-starter, capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some overnight travel as required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, human resources, education, administration, or related field
  • 3 years' experience effectively and successfully coordinating training, professional development, or related programming.
  • The ability to promote ideas of leadership and community stewardship.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and the ability to problem-solve.
  • Working knowledge of Social Services setting & culture
  • Reliable transportation
