The Office of Admissions at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for the newly created position of Transfer Advisor. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team, committed to serving students and their families and play a crucial role in assisting students in their transition to SUNY Oneonta.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment, expectations include but are not limited to guiding students through the transfer process, providing comprehensive support and engagement, and working to promote and enroll these students. This position will be hybrid requiring travel to partner community colleges and SUNY Oneonta. We value inclusivity and are committed to the recruitment and enrollment of a diverse student body. This is a 12 month, full-time, one-year grant funded position with opportunity for renewal. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Providing prospective students personalized advising and academic planning
  • Providing transfer credit evaluation
  • Assisting student through the application and enrollment process
  • Data management
  • Application review
  • Establishing and fostering relationships with community college faculty, staff, and students
  • Small and large group presentations
  • Managing multiple projects successfully as needed in a time sensitive environment
  • Working some evenings and/or weekends; weekly travel to partner community colleges

Job Requirements:


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid driver's license
  • Minimum of one year professional or two years paraprofessional experience in a university student service area
  • Demonstrated effective written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends
  • Computer proficiency including experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in academic advisement, admissions, or related area within higher education
  • Demonstrated record of being highly motivated and self-directed
  • Experience working with DegreeWorks, Ellucian Banner and/or Slate
  • Spanish proficiency
  • Experience working with and serving diverse populations
