Maritime College invites those interested in the position, Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life, to submit an application. Under the guidance of Director, Assistant Director is a professional, 12-month, live-in position responsible for developing a safe, intellectual, and social environment for resident students. Duties include: supervision of student staff; liaison with administrators, faculty, and staff; the development of specialized programming in the halls; daily administration and management of all facets pertaining to the Office of Housing and Residential Life. The Assistant Director actively participates in large scale campus events, staff recruitment, selection and training activities, management of four residence halls, occupancy, and on-call for campus emergencies. Evening and weekend work is required.

Descriptions of Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Use of Housing software where applicable
  • Supervises and trains assigned housing staff on housing policies and procedures for dissemination and completion
  • Provides direction, support and development for (RD) and (RA) through daily supervision, meetings, training and evaluation
  • Develop ongoing training program for Residence Life Staff
  • Assist in the yearly interview and selection process of the Resident Advisors (RAs) and Resident Hall Interns
  • Ongoing supervision of monthly floor / building programming and financial budgeting
  • Mediate conflict resolution meetings between para-professional staff and roommates
  • Assists the Director in managing all aspects of Housing and Residence Life.
  • Assist with room assignments during room lottery and new incoming student assignment.
  • Play a proactive role in all aspects of the move-in and move-out of students each semester, beginning with preparations far in advance, and concluding only after all residents and their belongings have been fully checked out, keys have been fully returned, and the rooms reset
  • Assist in coordinating updates on room changes or reassignments in the housing management system and communicating with Resident Advisors
  • Assist with student affairs event planning
  • Liaise with the Student Health services staff, the Dean's office, the Counseling Center and the Office of Disability
  • Services on student issues
  • Customer service for students, parents, alumni, parent's association; answers phone, email, mail; website admin.
  • Billing of student damages, violations, and keys
  • Rotational evening and weekend duty
  • Assist Area Coordinator with Facilities management, Plant Operations and the Housekeeping department
  • Help ensure upkeep and smooth functioning of Res Life amenities, i.e. office supplies
  • Serve on duty rotation for on call after hours for all student emergencies on campus

Responsible for Managing the Resident Director and/or Resident Advisors to complete the following

  • Oversee the implementation of room condition reports (RCR) & occupancy report from start to finish
  • Oversees all safety and security issues in the halls; organizes and executes health and safety inspections
  • Develop and conduct RA training throughout the year
  • Supports and directs academic, cultural and social programming related to residential life
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in Student Affairs/Student Services

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years Residence Hall experience
  • Masters Degree in Higher Education or Student Personnel or related field

Classification/Salary Range:
The Project Manager/Health & Safety Officer is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $55,000.00 to $65,000.00 annually, with an outstanding benefits package. Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment UUP Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
