Description of Duties:

SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry is seeking to hire two applicants to join the Facilities Planning, Design and Construction staff to work as a project manager, architectural, engineering or construction manager and facilities representative on projects and operations for the ESF Syracuse Campus and several remote campuses. Project Manager's concentrated efforts are on minimizing the negative impacts of construction on the operation of the campus, are able to plan and anticipate potential problems and work toward prevention while and maintaining communication with all stakeholders. This will include the following:

  • Represent faculty, students and staff needs in developing and reviewing renovation work for existing facilities and for new building construction projects with prioritizing energy efficiency, sustainability, and indoor environments.
  • Assist senior level project managers, engineers, architects and staff as need.
  • Work with State University Construction Fund (SUCF), Office of General Services (OGS), engineering, architectural and specialty consultants, contractors, applicable state or regulatory agencies. Ensure that related activities are meeting the goals and objectives of the College.
  • Analyze equipment needs, suggesting possible alternatives consistent with the requirements of the academic program, technical performance of equipment and market costs.
  • Develop design documents, which may consist of floors plans, elevations, schematic layout drawings and schedules. Graphic illustrations needed to provide the design intent to contractors and customers. Design documents could be produced via CAD or hand drawn sketches.
  • Develop specifications and cost estimates for new equipment.
  • Be familiar with NYS Building Codes, environmental regulations and construction of college facilities.
  • Maintain liaison with campus purchasing office and outside vendors to follow NYS purchasing guidelines and insure equipment availability and delivery schedules.
  • Represent and present budgets successfully. Create schedules with all relevant events and understand their relationships.
  • Complete required field investigations and document program needs, construction inspections, project budgets, project administration, payments and schedules.
  • Interact with key stakeholders to explain project schedule and scope.
  • Implement AiM asset management system within the Facilities Department.
  • Implement Project Request and Office Space Relocation processes within Facilities Department.
  • Attends job meetings reviews documents, produces meeting minutes, and confirms accuracy of minutes of project meetings.
  • This position will require strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Occasional travel to college properties as needed.

Job Requirements:


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or related field and three years of experience in capital project design and construction management, construction industry, construction supervision, architecture, engineering or related field
  • Experience in reading and following construction drawings and specifications;
  • Experience in computer aided design and drafting;
  • Strong computer skills including email, word, and excel;
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License for New York State;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the following areas:
  • Building systems, envelopes, and construction;
  • Budget estimating and project scheduling skills (including related software);
  • Specification writing experience;
  • AutoCAD 2008 (or higher) and/or REVIT software proficiency;
  • Specific training, certifications or working knowledge of NYS Building; Codes, National Electrical Code and other NFPA standards;
  • LEED accreditation, training or experience; and Building energy modeling experience;
  • Experience developing projects from concept through construction.
