Sunshine Thrift Store is Hiring a Donation Pick-up Driver Near Tampa, FL

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: FULL-TIME DRIVER

HOURLY/NON-EXEMPT/BENEFITS

JOB OBJECTIVE: Truck drivers are responsible picking up and transporting all donations from private homes, collection boxes, contributions from businesses, or other designated items.

Truck drivers must drive carefully and responsibly at all times, maintain a clean, well-kept vehicle, pick up all designated donations and/or cover every street in the designated area, and assist with the training of other drivers. Drivers represent both CSM and designated philanthropy; portraying a positive corporate image in every aspect at all times is paramount.

Drivers are required to successfully finish each route completely and successfully each day. In the event of an absence, you may be required to fill in and complete another driver’s route and/or add additional routes to your existing route in whole or in part. Missed routes of any kind will never happen. The company will rely on you to cover these routes to ensure customer satisfaction. Your cooperation with this will determine your success with our company. All drivers will work together to successfully complete each route every day. Missed pick-ups, or re-schedules are not acceptable and are grounds for immediate disciplinary action. Repeated / excessive absences will undermine our team effort and ability to cover and complete all routes every day.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (canvas route)

1. Drive safely and responsibly at all times. Make sure all bags are carefully inspected prior to lifting and use proper lifting techniques as outlined at the end of this job description.

2. Check all fluid levels in the truck each morning. A general inspection should be conducted each morning before leaving the premises. Report any damage to your Supervisor immediately. You will also be required to submit photographs of your truck showing damage, or lack thereof.

3. Review your route each morning before you leave. If you have questions regarding the route or the map, ask before leaving the premises. Each residence in the area you will be driving has received a card in the mail asking customers to place donated household items out for pick-up. It is imperative that EVERY house receive your attention, as every customer has been notified with a mailer card and is expecting your arrival. Customers in this area who call in are placed on a scheduled sheet which you are required to pick-up as well. Missed pick-ups or specials must receive priority attention.

4. While on the route (on the designated mapped area for pickups), drive well below the posted speed limit to ensure no items are missed.

5. Remove and maintain (from donation) all mailer cards in your truck. Do not place tape or other materials on or in truck. Mailer cards indicate how many successful pick-ups were made and failure to maintain and turn these cards in to the office will result in disciplinary action.

6. Maintain a respectable appearance. You are the only contact the customer has with the company. Your promptness, proper appearance, and exceptional manners are necessary for proper customer service and healthy public relations. Company uniforms will be issued and will be worn every day. Shirts or badges which have weathered or worn will be replaced as needed. Receipts will be left at every home who has participated. Placement of receipts in, on or around mailboxes is unacceptable and violation of federal laws.

7. Drivers WILL stack their daily loads in a neat and orderly fashion. At times the office may instruct you on specific stacking needs. Tossing or throwing items is unacceptable.

8. Maintain a clean, clutter free vehicle. You should take pride in your truck and make every effort to keep it clean and maintained; it is part of your job description to keep it that way.

9. Each driver will maintain communication with the office. In the event cellular communication is broken, telephone in periodically via collect call or otherwise to ensure route completion.

10. Maintain all reports and paperwork accurately, legibly, and as instructed.

11. Assist with the loading and unloading of trucks. Assist other drivers with the loading and unloading of trucks and or the completion of their route.

12. Report all accidents and/or moving violations to the office immediately, and call the police if injuries have occurred. Obey all traffic laws. Pay specific attention to speed limits in residential areas and school zones.

13. Report all accidents (REGARDLESS OF SEVERITY) and/or moving violations that have occurred in your personal vehicle or any other vehicle subject to moving violations. Whether the incident occurred on or off of company time, the driver is required to report ANY accidents and/or moving violations to their immediate supervisor by the beginning of the next work day.

14. Follow all driver rules and regulations and Cellular Telephone Policies as specified.

15. Follow all rules and requirements of local Department of Transportation including weight stations as required by law.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Assist in the maintenance of the exterior grounds of the building or maintenance of the vehicles. This includes transporting vehicles to and from repair facilities as needed, before, during, and after route completion.

2. Assist with the transportation of bales and store merchandise if needed.

3. Be familiar with the designated pick-up area. General knowledge of the area will be helpful.

4. Know and understand how to use a road and/or street map or similar GPS system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Drivers must have a high school diploma or its equivalent, or the education necessary to obtain basic reading and writing skills.

LICENSES: Drivers must have or must obtain the proper license as required by law and any applicable insurance company.

Since these change periodically, this requirement may change. You will be notified if so. If required, Drivers will provide current DOT health cards and renewals on your own time and at your own cost.

EXPERIENCE: Drivers must have at least three months experience in route sales or delivery services.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: (These are the physical skills required to perform the essential job functions, and their frequency during the work week.)

1. Constant lifting and carrying. Drivers must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and upwards of 100 pounds with assistance.

2. Constant heavy lifting and heavy carrying.

3. Constant use of both hands, legs, arms, fingers, and back.

4. Constant reaching above the shoulders, pulling, pulling hand over hand, and climbing.

5. Constant pushing, walking, standing, bending, and stooping.

6. Drivers must have good near vision, good distant vision, good depth perception, all with or without the use of vision aides.

7. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in a moving vehicle.

8. Constant driving of heavy equipment, trucks, etc.

9. Constant use of hearing. Drivers must have average hearing with or without the use of a hearing device.

10. Drivers must be able to get in and out of truck safely and successfully 80 to 120 times per day.

11. Drivers must be able to read and understand street maps and have the ability to navigate the routes provided to them.

12. Drivers must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with their Supervisor, other employees and other drivers.

Keeping drivers and equipment safe is of high importance at Collection Services Management, Inc. Damage to Company property, customer property, damage to company vehicles, or negligent actions (including forgetfulness or inattentiveness) are costly to the Company and disruptive to operations. As such, Collection Services Management, Inc. has opted to encourage safe and alert driving and safe behavior by providing a bi-annual bonus for drivers with no damage, accidents, or financial loss. Drivers are eligible for this bonus per the terms outlined in the Safe Driver Incentive Program.

5) There will be no backing into any private drives or driveways, unless requested by the customer. Do not follow cars through gated entrances under any circumstance. Broken gates will be the responsibility of the driver pursuant to the Driver Safety / Damage Avoidance

6) The rear door/tailgate/roll-up door/side sliding door is to remain closed while driving to and from your route or on major roads and highways.

7) Drivers MUST maintain contact with the office at all times via cellular telephone. The purpose is to make sure that communication is present and that the office can communicate with you regarding specific issues associated with the route. Upon completion of your route,

Drivers MUST call in to base to inform that the route is complete BEFORE LEAVING THE

PICKUP AREA. Find out which location you will be unloading at. Don’t make assumptions until you are sure. Speak clearly at all times while communicating and recognize the people in the office are also answering telephones and dealing with other issues. Please be patient.

8) Driver MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is subject to approval by the insurance underwriter or the Company. MVR reports will be checked annually, at minimum. If you receive a moving violation of any kind including in your personal vehicle, you must notify your Supervisor within 2 business days of the occurrence. This includes accidents, DUI, or tickets. If you are in an accident in the truck, immediately notify your Supervisor and the Base; follow the instructions on the completion of the driver accident form in your glove compartment. Use your cellular device to take pictures in the event of an accident of any kind. You are required to use this camera for any events which have caused damage to Company property. If a driver receives a moving violation in a company vehicle, they may be required to attend a remedial class at their own cost to remove the points from their license in order to maintain insurability. Failure to do so may result in suspension or termination. Should a ticket be issued from a “photo-monitoring”, the Company will receive notice of violation. The cost of the violation will be deducted from the driver’s next pay check automatically.

9) Every Store Manager, Supervisor, Assistant Manager and Office Manager will assist in the enforcement of each and every Rule and Regulation.

10) Do not pick up any items that are currently on the “do not accept” list. This list can be obtained from the office or our website. Generally, these items include fluid, paint, fuel, fuel cans, propane bottles, computers or dated televisions. These are hazardous waste products and we are not equipped to handle such. For questions regarding specific items, please contact your Supervisor or the Base.

11) Maintain a neat and professional appearance. Uniforms will be worn at all times and will be regularly cleaned. You are the only contact that the customer has with our organization and your professional image is important. DO NOT ENTER INTO THE CUSTOMER’S HOUSE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!!

12) Complete all paperwork and write all additions and notes legibly and in blue or black ink. Accurate mileage reporting is essential to determine monthly charges for leased vehicles.

Accurate skid estimations are essential to ensure proper merchandising. Follow all instructions on markings and notes provided by the office. It is important to make sure that all paperwork is complete and returned to the office as soon as you return to the base. It is the responsibility of the Driver to remove each Mailer card (or Yellow card which identifies the pickup) from the box or bag and turn them into the office. Torn cards or pieces of torn cards are to be included. Please refrain from placing tape on or in the truck or on the truck walls.

13) Drivers are guaranteed 40 hours of pay at a minimum provided you are on time to work and present every day. If you do not complete your assigned route, specials, call-ins, etc., your pay will be based on the actual hours you worked for the week. If you miss any day of the week, your pay is based on the hours you actually worked for the week. If you are late, the same is true. In the event a holiday effects the regular schedule or you are offered a day off, your guaranteed pay will be based on the remaining days of the schedule. I

14) Each time the truck stops to retrieve items from a donor it constitutes a “good pickup”.
