Sunshine Montessori Job Description

Position: Teacher

Direct Supervisor: Director and/or Assistant Director

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Enrolled in ECE course work, CDA program or Montessori certification, preferred
  • Trainings include: New Hire Orientation, Environmental Rating Scales and Frameworks
  • Minimum of 1-year experience teaching young children
  • Demonstrated ability & personal qualities to work well with children & adults

Professionalism/Sunshine Montessori Philosophy and Program Expectations:

  • Supports the philosophy of the school by being an active member of the team
  • Shows respect, develops and maintains relationships with staff and families
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Represents Sunshine Montessori to potential parents
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, parent functions and other school functions
  • Acquires at least 25 hours of educational training annually pertinent to your position
  • Completes an annual self-evaluation analyzing strengths and areas that need improvement
  • Creates an annual Professional Development Plan with goals for the upcoming year

  • Demonstrates honesty, punctuality, dependability and integrity through their work
  • Sets example by being professional in behavior and appearance while exhibiting compliance with all laws, policies and procedures

Relating to children/Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits positive interaction through individual communication, contact, responsiveness and modeling
  • Encourages language development through activities, songs, questions, books and other means
  • Uses appropriate child guidance techniques and supervision
  • Helps children deal with and label emotions
  • Helps children reason and problem solve
  • Develops and implements lesson plans according to guidelines set forth
  • Submits developmentally appropriate lesson plans weekly
  • Maintains daily schedule while meeting the needs of the children
  • Maintains a clean, organized and inviting classroom environment that encourages exploration
  • Uses the outdoors as part of the learning environment
  • Completes developmental checklists on children 2 times per year
  • Prepares the environment with developmentally appropriate materials that are rotated on a scheduled basis
  • Maintains portfolios for each child documenting progress in 3 ways

Relationships with Adults:

  • Demonstrates respect for families and co-workers
  • Works as a part of a team with concern for the entire program
  • Works with co-workers by communicating daily using open, direct communication
  • Works with parents by communicating daily; offering guidance & appropriate resources
  • Uses school technology to communicate with families according to set policies and procedures
  • Holds parent-teacher conferences 2 times per year to discuss child’s progress

Concern for School/Responsibilities:

  • Helps maintain organization and cleanliness of school including equipment and supplies – downstairs and upstairs
  • Has a thorough knowledge of and follows risk management procedures
  • Understands and follows all child supervision policies and procedures
  • Maintains daily recordkeeping
  • Abides by all health and safety standards
  • Check children for signs of illness or accidents
  • Follows Sunshine Montessori and DHS policies and procedures
