Sunshine Communities is Hiring a Spiritual Life Coordinator Near Maumee, OH

About Sunshine:

Sunshine Communities, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Northwest Ohio supporting individuals with developmental disabilities through residential, vocational, clinical, therapeutic, and recreational services. These services are offered in various circumstances including at our Maumee, Ohio campus and at homes within the community. In addition to programs on campus, Sunshine individuals and staff operate in downtown Maumee, Georgette’s Grounds and Gifts, a coffee shop and Sunshine Studios, an art studio space with a fair trade gift store offering classes to individuals and the community.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferred.
  • One to two years' experience working in pastoral care or spiritual life field.
  • Experience working with death and dying, individuals’ family/caregiver.
  • Hospice/hospital/medical experience highly preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License, good driving record, and proof of auto insurance.
  • Able to lift 60 pounds & pass a criminal background check.

SUMMARY: Coordinates spiritual opportunities for individuals within the Sunshine Community and through outside congregations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Meets with Sunshine staff and families to determine spiritual needs of residents.
  • Communicates with area congregations to offer worship services within Sunshine and to include Sunshine residents in congregations’ services/activities.
  • Maintains regular contact with congregation leaders, bridging the gap between Sunshine’s spiritual needs and the community
  • Offers presentations to local congregations regarding Sunshine’s services and needs.
  • Attend meetings or programs with church community partners, building relationship and opportunities for both Sunshine and church groups
  • Provides support to staff and to family during illness/hospitalization of residents.
  • Meets with staff and family to develop individualized memorial service for residents. Facilitates and/or leads memorial services.
  • Prepares and facilitates annual Christmas program.
  • Arranges and facilitates Annual Memorial Service at Sunshine.
  • Participates in area ministerial programs with persons such as pastors, youth directors, and disability service coordinators.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a calm, comforting environment in emergency situations for individuals, family, and staff.
  • Ability to work as member of the interdisciplinary group.
  • Comfort in an interfaith setting.
  • Ability to accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
  • Ability to network with community clergy and congregations.
  • Knowledge of various spiritual/religious/cultural backgrounds and belief systems.
  • Ability to network with diverse faith traditions on behalf of individuals, families and Sunshine.
  • Openness to non-traditional beliefs related to end of life care.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Be available for staff to talk, for comfort, or to pray. Be available to listen and council staff as needed.
  • Provide suggestions that help staff cope with their grief and find assistance for emergency situations.
  • Provide community resources for staff as needed.
  • Assist Community Engagement department with agency events such as: concerts, events, programs, volunteer groups, etc.
