Sunset is Hiring a Distribution Controller Near Livonia, MI

  • Primary Function:

    The Distribution Controller is responsible for preparing and reporting divisional financial performance results to meet internal and external financial reporting requirements, field inquiries and prepare periodic presentations of results. Assist the Director with preparation of financial plans, forecasts, budgets, and the maintenance of its fiscal records. The Distribution Controller has responsibility for ensuring effective financial controls. The position oversees the financial processing, reconciling, and reporting for the company and several of its subsidiaries.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Prepare and review the month end financial processing, for Mastronardi Produce Limited and various

    subsidiaries, including reconciliation of accounts, preparation of supporting schedules, adjusting entries,

    variance and ratio analysis and financial statement review

    • Oversight and stewardship of spending to monitor spend levels versus budget with early identification of items out of budget scope and other trends at variance to budget
    • Performs analysis on cost of business activities and recommends opportunities for cost savings
    • Have a vital role in the preparation of the annual budgeting process, including pre-budget analysis and

    research

    • Participate in the annual external audit and be involved with periodic regulatory requests
    • Ensure that adequate management controls are in place. As appropriate, design and document financial control policies and procedures
    • Develop and mentor a team of professional staff
    • Develop processes within the Finance Department to provide timely financial reporting and analysis,

    operating/capital budgets and tax planning/compliance

    • Identify key performance drivers (metrics) and opportunities that can be leveraged to improve the

    organization's profitability and create value for all stakeholders. Implement a process for tracking and measuring results both at the corporate and business unit level.

    • Assure a complete understanding of the accounting ramifications of operating in international business environments

    Education/Background Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited University/college is required; master’s degree preferred
    • 7 years of accounting experience, preferably with international exposure
    • Previous experience at a controller / assistant controller level or relevant experience with a recognized

    accounting firm is preferable.

    • CPA designation preferred
    • Supervisory/leadership experience

    Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

    • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Need to be creative, adaptable, and able to accurately handle out-of-the-ordinary micro issues with a sense of urgency.
    • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills and be comfortable interacting with executivelevel management, present information and direction, and field questions from managers, employees and

    external contacts

    • Experience with Microsoft Navision or similar ERP system preferred
    • Strong knowledge of accounting standards to maintain compliance to all relevant statues and guiding principles
    • Experience in the food and beverage industry is desirable

    Working Conditions:

    • Ability to travel between Canada and the US periodically
    • Working conditions are normal for an office environment
