SUNRISE SERVICES INC is Hiring an Undergraduate Mental Health Intern Near Everett, WA

Gain valuable experience within the mental health field! Sunrise Services, Inc. offers mental health internships for aspiring counselors and mental health professionals. Interns will get hands on experience working within our mental health clinics under the supervision of a Mental Health Professional. Interns should have current acceptance or be enrolled in a relevant undergrad program. 
  • This is an unpaid internship
  • Our sites include offices in Everett, Mountlake Terrace, Mount Vernon, Bellingham and Coupeville.
  • Openings at all locations are subject to supervisor availability
General Responsibilities: Mental Health Undergraduate Interns support Sunrise staff in helping Sunrise clients meet their treatment goals. This includes providing direct and indirect client services across a variety of community and clinical settings to facilitate client care.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities and Essential Role Functions:• Document and submit all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
• Assist clinical and administrative staff in their routine duties such as:
- Managing client reception: greeting clients, answering phones, admitting clients into services,
and triaging them appropriately
- Making outreach, engagement, and reminder calls
- Faxing important documents
- Working on data integrity projects in Sunrises Electronic Health Record System
- Helping group facilitators run therapy or recovery groups
• Provide support, instruction, and encouragement to help clients achieve their treatment goals
• Assist clients with daily living skills using empowering, person-centered modalities
• Provide support services to clients during crisis or emergency situations, which may include:
- Coordinating with ancillary or outside care staff such as primary care providers, medical
assistants, housing case managers, and pharmacies
- Contacting emergency services or emergency contacts as appropriate
• Encourage client participation in meaningful activities relevant to their care
• Support client’s ability to develop and maintain an appropriate personal support network
• Maintain required continuing education training as applicable to licensure or credential
• Comply with all Medicare, Medicaid, Regional, and Company service regulations
• Other responsibilities appropriate to the position not specifically listed may be assigned on an as needed
basis.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Basic knowledge of how mental illness may impact an individual’s behavior
• Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines (HIPAA, CFR 42 Part 2, etc.)
• Ability to set and maintain firm personal and professional boundaries with recipients of services
• Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor and demonstrate appropriate verbal/physical communication skills:
- Even in emotionally charged or otherwise intense encounters
- With clients experiencing a mental health crisis
- With clients who present with inappropriate or challenging behavioral issues
• Skills to establish supportive, trusting relationships with persons experiencing severe and persistent
mental illnesses
• Ability to coordinate treatment planning effectively with clinical staff
• Written communication skills that allow for thorough completion of required documentation
• Ability to prioritize tasks so that all documentation is completed in a timely manner
• Ability to make responsible decisions and perform internship duties independently
• Demonstrated respect for diversity
• Demonstrated commitment to developing multicultural competency and sensitivity
• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and transport clients on an as-needed basis.
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship opportunity. 
Educational Requirements, Certifications and/or licenses:• High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Current acceptance or enrollment into a relevant Undergraduate Program
• DSHS background clearance required
• Current valid Washington State driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• $50,000 automobile liability insurance required to operate company vehicles
• Must be eligible to apply for an Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration
