The Virtual Power Plant Operator Position

Sunnova Energy is looking for a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Operator. The VPP operator will be a proactive, communicative, and collaborative problem solver responsible for managing the daily operations of Sunnova’s distributed energy assets in connection to various energy programs. Utilizing data analytics platforms, this role will focus on analyzing fleet performance across different Grid Services programs and setting expectations across functions on forecasted performance of the fleet. Additionally, the VPP Operator will be responsible for program administration including enrollments, settlements, and contract administration.

Responsibilities

  • Frequently collaborate with the team on new and existing programs, processes and projects.
  • Communicates effectively and daily with Managers and team on status of projects, tasks and programs.
  • Brings a positive attitude to resolving challenges and working through problems.
  • Takes full accountability of projects and processes.
  • Ensures each storage asset is properly established and configured to support grid services programs within the virtual power plant software systems.
  • Manages storage asset profiles to conform with customer agreements and grid service programs, including scheduling changes as required for grid service events and programs.
  • Manages customer enrollment/unenrollment processes with utilities, ISO/RTOs, and other counterparties and within the virtual power plant software systems.
  • Maintains all program rules and requirements; ensures continual compliance with applicable market and operational rules.
  • Clearly Communicate daily with stakeholders and manager concerning tasks at hand
  • Work in a fast-paced environment during events and flexible in managing working hours during critical time
Minimum Requirement
  • Education required: BA/BS degree in business or science discipline or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum years of experience required: 2 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of ISO/RTO market operations, particularly ISO-NE, CAISO, ERCOT and PJM 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in utility asset management, generation companies, or utilities
  • Previous experience in the electrical industry on a generation or real-time trading desk or experience in demand response programs
  • Experience using Salesforce 
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
