POSITION SUMMARY

Plan, organize, mentor, and direct engineering staff to meet company objectives for design of new products, process development and improvement, design changes, and cost savings projects. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and direct work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving departmental issues.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

The specific minimum competencies needed to perform the essential duties of the job include knowledge, skills, abilities, level of education, and experience necessary for successful performance. These competencies are generally demonstrated through specific service, education, or training.

Knowledge: Acquired through education, certifications, training, experience.

Process knowledge of fundamental plastics processes (Injection molding, extrusion, RF welding, heat sealing, ultrasonic welding, solvent bonding, dip molding, and assembly), equipment, and instruments used in various types of engineering along with knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations and governmental practices is required.

Skills & Abilities: 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and apply advanced mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical concepts. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels in the organization both verbally and in writing. Computer proficiency, and knowledge of Solidworks is required. Great customer communications skills are required. Possess the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to manage and mentor technical staff is required. 

Level of Experience: 

An equivalent combination of education and experience, 4 years supervisory or management experience, and 10 years’ experience in the engineering field.

Level of Education: 

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering required, MBA or equivalent preferred.

Travel: Amount of travel availability required for position.

Up to 10%. Occasional Overnight.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

The core tasks, duties, and responsibilities that must be performed on the job.

  • Hire, train, and appraise staff effectively.
  • Manage engineering aspects of new and existing products, ensuring that department engineers.
  • Qualify and document product and process changes.
  • Interact with other departments to resolve processing issues.
  • Develop, qualify, and implement new processes.
  • Perform manufacturing training to ensure all associates involved with the product understand its use and requirements.
  • Acts as visible, professional, and dedicated representative of the Engineering Department and as a technical contact with various government agencies.
  • Manage Engineering budgets, create engineering procedures, approve drawings, procedures, Engineering Changes, specifications, and protocols/reports.
  • Prioritize department activities and determine resource requirements.
  • Other duties as required.
