JOB SUMMARY:

Responsibilities to include the management of the day to day operations for the technical needs of the business. Planning, directing and coordinating quality assurance programs for Sunbelt’s ongoing projects and strategic initiatives are primary responsibilities. This includes the development and maintenance of Sunbelt processes and standards, as well as, training, development and coaching Sunbelt employees on such processes and standards. This role supports the strategic planning and development of the technical services group in alignment with the business’s strategic direction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages and oversees the quality assurance (QA/QC) of engineering designs and software solutions development through the project life cycle.
  • Manages the engineering workload and resource capacity through effective allocation of engineers to projects and outsourcing to third-party resources when necessary.
  • Manages the Project Turnover process and ensures meetings with the Project Manager/Project Engineers, to gather all information needed to conduct engineering, software development and field expectations.
  • Supports engineering and software development functions for complex and/or large and on-going project requirements.
  • Reviews outsourced engineering, software and graphic solutions with a QA/QC overview prior to submission to the customer.
  • Develops, manages and maintains the Sunbelt engineering, software and graphics solutions standards documentation and libraries.
  • Responsible for training, development and coaching of junior level engineers on engineering concepts, system applications, local and federal code standards.
  • Development of methods and processes to increase personnel efficiency and effectiveness while striving to reduce costs for engineering, programming and graphics development.
  • Recruitment, development and evaluation of Design Engineers and Systems Software Engineers to support the ALC and Distech product lines and business segments.
  • Develops annual staffing and recruiting strategy for sizing the group for growth in the business.
  • Provides weekly capacity management for scheduling and resource loading to the Operations Manager as needed.
  • Proactively supports the evaluation of potential issues on projects and initiates actions plans with the associated Project Manager to limit negative outcomes and exposure.
  • Develops and maintains viable relationships with customers, project managers, office staff and field personnel. Schedules and attends meetings as necessary.
  • Provides technical project development support to the Project Managers in applications and cost estimating input as necessary.
  • Provides accountability assurance throughout and supports post-project reviews as necessary.
  • Manages operational productivity as it relates to the Technical Services group to meet expected productivity metrics on a monthly basis.
  • Manages the cost accountability of each of the team members through leadership and effective communication and coaching.
  • Evaluates and develops the group supervisor roles for effective management and leadership of their respective teams.
  • Participates in technical presentations internally and externally to demonstrate technical team credibility and experience with critical application and design/build projects.
  • Continuously pursues personal development in new technologies and solutions to enable the role to be the subject matter expert for the Sunbelt organization.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager, Sales Management and/or the Executive team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 7-10 years of work experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate a mastery of controls engineering and software solutions relevant for the industry and specific.
  • Ability to operate independently and autonomously and yet possess the discretionary judgment to know when it’s appropriate to consult with others in the organization and/or escalate to the Operations Manager and/or Sales Manager.
  • Demonstrate a corresponding high sense of integrity.
  • Demonstrated experience/ability to convey advanced concepts in a manner that is understandable to basic/junior stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management abilities, employing strong organizational skills to respond successfully to a high volume of issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate basic and/or “stretch” tasks to less experienced staff and assign resource correctly to diagnose/address issues.
