Special Education Paraprofessional

Location: South Mountain

Job Type: Full-time

Starting Salary: $16/hour

HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT SUN VALLEY ACADEMY

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

· Provide instruction and classroom management services with special needs students under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher.

· Behavioral support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire).

· Provide instruction to individual students and small groups of students.

· Assist students in achieving academic success to include social integration and personal care and supervision

· Assist the classroom teacher in devising and implementing special strategies for reinforcing skills based on the special needs and abilities of each child.

· Assist in developing and preparing instructional materials and training modules.

· Assist with the establishment and reinforcement of acceptable student behavior, attitudes, and social skills.

· Provides support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.

· Assist with student enrichment activities including field trips, art and recreation.

· Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress

· Assist with recordkeeping for the instructional program and student records.

· Assist with the inventory and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

· Monitor and assist with transporting students to and from school and on field trips.

· Monitor and assist students during meal and recess periods.

· Maintain schedule established by supervising teacher.

· Use a variety of activities and materials approved by the supervising teacher.

· Work effectively with general and special education teachers.

· Assist with student testing administration and scoring.

· Assist classroom teacher with general cleanup and preparation.

· Develops and maintained effective collaborations with teachers, parents, administrators and community partners.

· Work with students on a one-to-one basis including students with sensory, cognitive, emotional and/or physical disabilities.

· Participate in staff development training, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed

· Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Minimum AA Degree, 60 credit hours or Parapro Certification

· Ability to use word processing on a PC computer

· Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

· Valid First Aid / CPR Certifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times

ABOUT THE POSITION

Paraprofessionals assist, support, and work closely with supervising school teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefit for students. Dependent upon the assignment, but always under direct supervision of school employees, this role may be working directly in a special education classroom, working in a general education classroom or environment, and/or working one-on-one with a student or small group of students.
