The (Sr.) Buyer will perform purchasing activities and maintain manufacturer relationships while enhancing processes and systems development to support the continued growth of the company.

The (Sr.) Buyer will compile information and records to prepare purchase orders for procurement of material by performing the following functions:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Verifies nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests.
  • Consults catalogs and interviews suppliers to obtain prices and specifications.
  • Creates and sends invitation of bid forms and mails forms to supplier firms or for public posting.
  • Creates purchase order and sends copy to supplier and department originating request.
  • Compiles records of items purchased or transferred between departments, prices, deliveries, and inventories.
  • Computes total cost of items purchased.
  • Confers with suppliers concerning late deliveries.
  • Compares prices, specifications, and delivery dates and awards contract to bidders or places orders with suppliers or mail order firms.
  • Verifies bills from suppliers with bids and purchase orders and approves bills for payment.
  • Sources and recommends suppliers, obtains quotes and conducts negotiations that directly impact the productivity and cost effectiveness of the materials, laboratory and manufacturing functions.
  • Audits and maintains vendor performance records and makes recommendations for corrective action where required.
  • Expedites shipments where necessary, and authorizes premium shipment payments, working with vendors to insure appropriate flow.
  • Generates purchase orders and tracks purchase orders prepared.
  • Generates approvals for payment of invoices based on audit of supplier invoices and purchase orders.
  • Enters, maintains and conforms various SAP Masters as required
  • Return and tracking of non-conforming materials and ensuring replacement of required materials or obtaining credit for returned materials.
  • Creates and maintains tracking systems and works continually to streamline and improve processes associated with area of responsibility. Prepares and distributes reports and documents designed to maintain import functionality. Maintains and archives records according to standard operating procedure and company policy. 
  • Additional duties and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate.

Essential Job Qualifications:

  • Requires knowledge of related computer applications SAP knowledge required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access required.
  • Must have familiarity with basic accounting procedures and vendor interaction and negotiation experience. 
  • Must be able to keyboard at 35 wpm. 
  • Must be attentive to detail and consistently demonstrate a high degree of accuracy.
  • Must have exposure to the purchase of Pharmaceutical Raw materials and packing materials.
  • Ability to work with, communicate and negotiate with vendors across the globe required. 
  • Ability to complete required paperwork, create tracking, follow through devices, and process improvement.
  • Ability to resolve issues regarding goods receipts, invoicing, and rush order placement.
  • Strong negotiation skills coupled with strong sense of urgency and attention to detail skills
  • Ability to interact with internal personnel in multiple departments
  • Ability to negotiate, procure, and establish strong vendor relationships

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years in progressively responsible buyer positions within the pharmaceutical industry, with exposure to all buying vertical components.
  • Experienced with vendor negotiation and documentation requirements. 
  • Minimum BS/BA Degree.
  • Specific, job related experience may be substituted for degree requirement with a High School Diploma 

Physical Requirements and Behavioral Competencies

  • Able to reach, push, bend, lift up to 25lbs infrequently.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to speak with clarity via telephone and face to face.
  • Visual acuity in order to perform normal job functions in a manufacturing environment.
  • Decision making strength regarding vendor selection
  • Interact effectively with personnel across all manufacturing and office areas
  • Negotiation skills
  • Adherence to operational discipline
