Position Summary:

As a Foundations (FTG) Field Technician Intern,you will learn and be responsible for various construction materials testing on active construction jobsites or collection of relevant test data on future or existing projects. You will shadow and learn to become an expert in collecting foundation samples and conducting field and/or laboratory testing on subsurface conditions. With projects ranging from single-family residential communities to multi-family developments, you will gain the knowledge and experience necessary to take your skills to the next level.

Job Responsibilities:

• Travel to various job sites in a company provided vehicle
• Collect samples and conduct routine field and/or laboratory testing on subsurface conditions for foundations and other surfaces using field equipment
• Learn how to review blueprints and verify foundations are installed per the plan
• Observe, document and complete accurate and detailed daily field activity and/or diagrams including: residential foundation subgrade verification, residential slab compaction evaluation, residential preliminary subsurface evaluation, registered design professional (RDP) inspections and deep foundation layouts
• Report all findings to clients and supervisors
• Communicate verbally and electronically daily with various field personnel and colleagues
• Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

• Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments
• Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing, sitting and repetitive motions
• Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)
• Some weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required. You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day
• Ability to regularly lift and/or repeatedly move up to 40lbs. (soil tests and related apparatus); frequently lift and/or move up to 60lbs. (soil tests and related apparatus)

• Required: High School diploma or equivalent

• Required: Must be at least 18 years old for entry onto job sites
• Required: Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record
• Required: Monday – Friday daytime availability (typically 7am-5pm)
• Preferred: Outdoor work experience
• Preferred: Heavy lifting/manual labor
• Required: Ability to read, write and use technology including phone and computer
• Preferred but not required: prior experience as field/engineering technician, construction materials testing or related experience
