Student Technical Specialist Requisition ID req29442 Working Title Osteology Collections Specialist Pay 21.00 Hourly Campus Main - Albuquerque, NM Department Maxwell Museum (937B) Employment Type Student Employment Student Type Student Employment Status Non-Exempt Background Check Required For Best Consideration Date 5/13/2024 Position Summary NAGPRA Osteology Collections Specialist, UNM Chaco Grant Job Duration: 5/22/2024-9/20/2024 20-40 hours/week Assists Senior Collections Manager of Human Osteology with the inventory of osteological collections from Chaco Canyon sites. Examples of work include: complete skeletal inventories for each catalog number; determine minimum number of individuals (MNI), and age and sex when possible for official reporting; enter data and documents into museum database; and re-housing ancestors; assist in discerning burial context information from archival materials; assist in reassociation of funerary objects from archaeology collection that fall under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA); and other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress. Preferred Qualifications Applicants should be a graduate student in anthropology or museum studies with prior course work, training, experience, or other knowledge of the material culture of New Mexico. 5 years of working knowledge in human osteology required. Ability to assess MNI, age, and sex of skeletal individuals required. Competent using Microsoft Office Suite and able to lift 40 lbs. boxes and work in a dusty environment. Able to work near culturally sensitive materials, such as funerary belongings and ancestors. Able to meet during working hours with Collections Managers and NAGPRA coordinator to review findings.
