Summit Credit Union is Hiring a Commercial Lender Near Cottage Grove, WI

Summit Credit Union, voted top work place by WSJ and Madison Magazine, has an exciting opportunity to join our business lending team as a Commercial Lender. This position will focus on Micro Business ($50,000 or less) and Micro Plus Business (as determined by BLC or CEO) relationships, this role is responsible for cultivating relationships that translate into new business for the credit union, and providing education, advice and a full range of financial services to a variety of businesses that fall into the above-mentioned range, including but not limited to start-up, entrepreneurial and service-oriented business members, enabling them to increase their financial power. The market area includes focusing primarily on the business needs of our existing member base and businesses within a five mile radius of our branches.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and maintain processes to support the small business credit workflow
    • Grow business deposits and loans, increase interest and non-interest income.
    • Consult with members and potential members to identify needs and propose solutions to meet those needs.
    • Cross-sell a full range of business products and services.
  • Lending
    • Maintain and service a business loan portfolio of members falling into the Micro and Micro Plus relationship size.
    • Analyze credit and financial information of businesses for credit worthiness.
    • Make lending decisions according to policy and prepare lending packages for review by senior lenders and the Business Loan Committee as needed.
    • Ensure proper documentation and compliance is in place for all files in portfolio.
    • Conduct relationship reviews of all loans in assigned portfolio, and develop positive working relationships with internal and external auditors and examiners.
    • Manage and monitor all loans within assigned portfolio that have become delinquent or that are otherwise determined to be on our watch list and keep loan quality at industry accepted levels.
  • Relationship management
    • Develop partnerships with assigned branches that result in reciprocating referrals and an enhanced member experience that addresses both the business and personal needs of our business members.
    • Develop strong working relationships both inside and outside the department that promote team values and a common purpose to create a positive member experience through all delivery channels, processes, procedures, and communications.
    • Be involved in community and business development activities that enhance the credit union’s visibility and create new business opportunities.
    • Work with co-workers, other departments and outside vendors to advance department operations and projects to increase service delivery, efficiency and profitability.
  • Assist in the system administration necessary to meet program requirements, including the set-up and ongoing administration of the Loan Origination System as it relates to the policies, procedures and automated decision logic.
  • Collaborate with Business Lenders and Branch colleagues to educate and support in-person member inquiries.
  • Prepare regular reports on status of business lending portfolio for senior management.

Job Specifications

  • Professional well developed interpersonal skills essential for interacting with credit union staff and members.
  • Work requires ability to work accurately with figures and ability to perform detailed work with an extremely high degree of accuracy.
  • Requires ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or a related field desired; equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Five years of financial institution experience with a minimum of one year direct responsibility for originating loans and understanding of the lending process required. Experience in Business lending or credit analysis a plus. Knowledge of business deposit products and documentation requirements is needed.
  • Proven business development and leadership abilities are required. Must have strong relationship management and excellent skills in prospecting and building relationships.
  • Basic proficiency in business and financial analysis and modeling skills, with understanding of financial accounting, income statements, balance sheets, etc., requiring the ability to gather, analyze and prepare reports.
  • Working knowledge of lending practices, policies, procedures, disclosures and terminology related to banking laws, regulatory requirements and legal documents
  • In-depth mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, dividend, interest, payoff and equity calculations etc).
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and intermediate knowledge of Excel. Working knowledge of automated financial systems, and ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
  • Valid state driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation as frequent travel may be required.
