Summit Community Care Clinic is Hiring a School Based Health Center - Clinic Associate Near Fairplay, CO

The Medical Assistant Service Representative position is the combination of a Medical Assistant and Patient Service Representative. This position is the first point of contact between the student, student’s family, and school district staff. The Medical Assistant Service Representative is responsible for supporting patients and assisting healthcare providers in the efficient, orderly delivery of healthcare services. This includes scheduling, patient outreach, and ensuring care is coordinated and integrated between all three service lines (medical, dental, and behavioral health). Furthermore, the Medical Assistant Service Representative performs related medical assistant duties as assigned by the SBHC Medical Assistant Supervisor and the healthcare provider they are paired with during their shift.

The Medical Assistant Service Representative must demonstrate regard for the rights of all patients, staff, and volunteers. They provide respectful and professional care focused on the patient's individual needs. In addition, they sustain a safe and confidential environment.

This position is based at the Park County School Based Health Center located in the Park County School District Administration Building in Fairplay, CO. The location of this position can be changed due to the needs of Summit Community Care Clinic. Therefore, the Medical Assistant Service Representative may be asked to work at our main clinic, other SBHC locations, or any satellite locations. This position may be scheduled Monday through Saturday with occasional later shifts to accommodate our patient population.

Essential Functions:

  • Transitioning the patient from the point of contact to their appointment and to patient checkout. Maximizing patient scheduling opportunities with attention to operational flow and the needs of the patient.
  • Screen all new and established patients for eligibility of School Based Health Services.
  • Patient Appointment Preparation: prepare patient records for appointment readiness; gather required paperwork and update demographics, insurance, enrollment for accurate records completion in the Electronic Records system.
  • Responsible for filling the schedule, scrubbing, and reminder calls/texts.
  • Collect payment and complete end of day reconciliation.
  • Participate in school and community events including, but not limited to, back to school nights, school registrations, and SBHC immunization clinics.
  • Lead and participate in team huddles.
  • Provide administrative support for integrated care and team base care models.
  • Room patients prior to being seen by medical provider in a timely fashion. This includes accurately taking and recording vital signs, patient’s chief medical complaint and a medical, surgical, and social history.
  • Assists medical provider with in-room patient care for requested procedures. Performs blood draws, specimen collection, wound care, ear washes, throat cultures, injections, pregnancy tests, electrocardiograph procedures, and other lab duties as delegated. Completes lab paperwork as dictated by current protocol.
  • Keeps exam rooms cleaned, sterilized, and stocked between patients. Performs sterilization or disposal of contaminated supplies. Informs supervisor of need for supplies, repairs, and equipment. Performs all scheduled controls/tests on medical equipment according to manufacturer guidelines. Performs cleaning and sterilization on all medical equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Consistently, accurately, and objectively documents patient interactions and other information in EHR. Charting is accurate, timely, appropriate, and understandable.
  • Completes lab tracking process in a timely and thorough manner as described in lab policy. Complete lab callbacks as delegated by the provider.
  • Processes internal prescription dispensing according to protocol.
  • Maintains all aspects of patient confidentiality according to HIPAA requirements.
  • Maintains compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and provides medical assistance in accordance with those guidelines. Responsible for maintaining knowledge of such regulations and for the application of such guidelines in the workplace.
  • Other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Additional Requirements:

  • Grants are a vital part of Care Clinic revenues and directly or indirectly support all positions. This role may have responsibilities that are closely associated with grant deliverables. Grants and grant responsibilities may change over time.
  • Works closely with Health Educators and Healthcare Providers.
  • Collects and enters patient information about health history, behavioral health, and substance use.
  • Complete all required trainings as designated by HR and the position supervisor.
  • Adhere to all policies within the organization and those outlined within the SCCC Employee Handbook.
  • Comply with all SCCC Vaccine Mandates.
  • Willingness to travel and work at other SCCC locations as determined by the supervisor.
  • Comply with all applicable Credentialing and Privileging requirements timely.
  • Embrace the SCCC Mission and Vision and agree to work within the SCCC Guiding Principles and the principles set by the position supervisor.
  • Must participate in quality assurance/ improvement activities when applicable.

Education/Experience:

Must Haves to be successful:

  • High School education or equivalent, associates or bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of digital systems (including Microsoft Office Suite) required.
  • Critical level of attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
  • CPR certification.
  • Exhibit cultural competence and exceptional teamwork skills.
  • Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, co-workers, administration, physicians and providers, community agencies, referral sources, regulators, and other health team members.

Nice to Haves:

  • Graduate from a medical assistant or certified nursing assistant school or completed EMT training is preferred.
  • Proficient customer service skills preferably healthcare but not required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
