Position: Electrical Instructor (Substitute)

Location: El Cajon, CA

  • Position Description:

As an Electrical instructor your job involves providing instruction with an approved training curriculum and materials. Instructors should enjoy working with people to help develop them into quality technicians. Our instructors provide assessment of students through applicable monitoring and reporting processes. Instructors ensure adherence to all safety standards and practices, including oversight, care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and materials. Our instructors continuously promote all programs by building awareness and understanding of the program requirements among students, vendors, employers and the local community.

  • Role and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver approved curriculum to students on a daily basis in accordance with course competencies/objectives.
  • Select and utilize a variety of approved course materials and teaching methods – such as using lectures, demonstrations, discussion groups, and seminars - to ensure the needs of the individual students are met in the program, utilizing instructional lesson plans.
  • Teach classes as assigned, using the college Learning Management System, as applicable. Explain and demonstrate related laboratory/practical procedures.
  • Provide a learning environment conducive to academic success, using instructional methodologies consistent with student need within program guidelines and according to regulating agencies
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies.

Coach, guide, and empower students to achieve optimum success. Utilize a variety of communication methods to promote higher student retention.

  • Manage classroom teaching conditions and environment through active instructor engagement in order to promote positive classroom discipline and control, timely class meetings, and appropriate use of furniture, equipment and learning materials.
  • Immediately report any observed or perceived difficulties in student progress to supervisors and, upon approval, initiate appropriate actions to rectify same
  • Provide students with academic support and advice, tutor if necessary, and provide other assistance as needed.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document students’ progress through observation, tests, examinations and other learning activities in theory and practice.
  • Ensure related lab supplies and equipment are in working order and up-to-date.
  • Maintain program equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient manner and/or report any equipment malfunctions, deficiencies or safety hazards to supervisor immediately upon discovery
  • Maintain a professional and positive appearance at all times.
  • Demonstrate evidence of professional growth, academic currency and digital fluency, which includes internet literacy, critical thinking and sensitivity to diversity.
  • Participate in other campus activities, committees, and projects.
  • Maintain expertise in subject area and stay current with all regional and state code changes and industry standards as it applies to the program subject matter being taught.
  • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of their educational process.
  • Provide regular, accurate and timely feedback to students and the school concerning academic, behavior, attendance, etc.
  • Demonstrate agility in the online learning management system and provide high-level interaction with students in the virtual environment.

  • Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Minimum of three years of experience in the occupation or job title which the instructor will teach, prior experience in education.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, digital fluency, sensitivity to diversity. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

· Future Training Requirements:

Each instructor shall maintain their knowledge by completing continuing education courses in his or her subject area, classroom management or other course related to teaching and digital currency. Faculty are required to maintain current licensure at employees own cost.
