POSITION DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION

POSITION TITLE: Aircraft Inspector DATE: August 2023
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt DEPT: Quality
LOC: Delaware

POSITION SUMMARY: The Inspector reports to the Quality Manager and is responsible for performing inspection on various aircraft as required; operates in compliance with company safety practices and performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures that all inspections are properly performed on all completed work and that the proper inspection records, reports and forms as are properly executed prior to releasing the product for flight or customer operations.
  • Ensures that current pertinent Federal Aviation Regulations, Type Certificate Data Sheets and Specifications, Airworthiness Directives and Aircraft Manufacturers technical data are used as appropriate for work being accomplished.
  • Ensures that tools and precision test equipment used on work being accomplished has a current calibration label, if the tool or test equipment requires calibration.
  • Ensures that no defective unserviceable, or unairworthy parts are installed on or in aircraft, components or articles released for Return to Service or Flight Operations.
  • Submits reports of defects of unairworthy condition in accordance with FAR regulations
  • Conducts the preliminary, hidden damage, in process, and final inspection of all articles processed in relation to work being accomplished and record.
  • Ensures that all equipment/components removed for repair and/or to gain access are properly documented, tagged and identified on the appropriate forms.
  • Ensures for continuity of inspection; assuring completion of required inspection when personnel, shift, or assignment changes occur.
  • Ensures that rejected and unserviceable parts are handled in such a way as to prevent their reuse.
  • Ensure that all inspections are properly performed on all completed work before approving for Return to Service or Flight Operations, and ensure that the proper inspection and maintenance records, reports, and forms required for such release are properly executed.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all inspection methods, techniques and practices used in area of responsibility to determine the quality of airworthiness of an article undergoing maintenance, repair or alteration.
  • Shall contact the Chief Inspector or Quality Manager should there be any conflicts with other designated inspectors, when conflict is related to the release for return to service or flight operations of airframe, engines, propellers, appliances and the component parts thereof.
  • Ensures that appropriate maintenance manual repair and inspection procedures, service bulletins and letters and other data as appropriate for work being accomplished are included as part of the work order sign off.
  • Ensures that the work order discrepancy corrective action is adequate for the work accomplished and that preliminary inspections are accomplished on applicable articles.
  • Shall not perform inspections on any installations in which he has performed work.
  • Prior to returning to service or flight operations any equipment/component, assure that any Airworthiness Directives that may apply are accomplished.
  • Inspect all Avionics work that requires the qualification of an airframe/power plant mechanic, such as maintenance of items or equipment not covered by radio and instrument ratings, for example: airframe structures, airframe electrical wiring, weight and balance, components replacement etc.
  • Shall ensure that parts/components as received from the parts department are accompanied by proper identification and that parts/components as received from the parts department that could possibly require a “Core Return” are acknowledged and that the core is returned to the stock room in a timely manner.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience: A&P required; five to seven years of aircraft maintenance and three years rotary wing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully an individual should have the ability to interact with and enter data into spreadsheet software.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work effectively and contribute in a team environment and self-direct work.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; walk, talk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel occasionally.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions such as extreme cold and heat, work near moving mechanical parts and vibration and work in high, precarious places. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and work with explosives. The noise level in the work environment falls within acceptable limits of OSHA guidelines.
