The anticipated salary range for this role is between $150,000.00and $200,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Overview

Responsible for underwriting and portfolio management, to cover various industries within the wider CIBC organization. This position will work with Relationship Managers (RM's) as a liaison from the division's Lending Management Group (LMG) to other departments in order to execute client opportunities for the Bank.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in managing and executing transactions from beginning to closing including building and maintaining financial models.
  • Preparation of credit applications, borrower rating applications, annual/quarterly client reviews.
  • Monitor and evaluate current events related to the specific assigned sector and advise RM of these events.
  • Attend conference calls, client meetings and due diligence in support of credit underwriting.
  • Execution of transaction closing and legal documentation.
  • Oversee junior analysts on individual transactions to drive execution
  • End to end ownership of the portfolio and clients under assignment, from the point of origination to deal closing to ongoing monitoring.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of job relevant work experience in a corporate banking function, credit analyst experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge and skill in banking product documentation, with an ability to proficiently navigate legal documents and explain basic terms. Demonstrated ability to solve risk issues by investigating terms in credit agreements.
  • Solid understanding of loan / deal closing.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with an ability to synthesize large amounts of information and accurately assess complex information.
  • Must be highly proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Excellent financial modeling/valuation skill.
  • Strong Finance and Accounting skills, including an ability to read and interpret financial statements and an ability to apply knowledge in those areas to understand the overall lending and business environment
  • Demonstrated ability to execute complex transactions from beginning to end of the deal lifecycle with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to coordinate and communicate with various internal departments across the bank (middle/back office, global counterparts.) Effectively partner with other internal teams and product areas and viewed as being collegial and collaborative while driving transactions to completion.
  • Ability to organize thoughts, clearly articulate key points, and provide clear explanations of transactions. Strong technical, credit analysis writing skills. Demonstrated ability to make and defend credit decisions under scrutiny from senior management
  • Demonstrates a high degree of attention to detail and an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines while managing multiple deliverables. Strong ability to notice discrepancies in data.
  • Intermediate / working knowledge of the full suite of corporate banking products (FX, IRS, Trade, Securitization, Supply Chain Finance, DCM, Leasing, etc.)
  • Intermediate knowledge of all elements of credit risk management, including legal, compliance and US regulations pertaining to lending.
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and an interest in continuous learning. Self-driven and motivated; takes personal ownership of specific assignments. Proactive decision-maker; must handle a high volume of credit intensive work and must take initiative in a highly time sensitive environment.
