Job Description

Sumitomo Electric U.S.A. Holdings, Inc. (SEUHO), a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for a Purchasing Assistant for our Procurement and Logistics Department in our Torrance, CA office. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist General Manager, Assistant Manager, and Buyers in communication with vendors and customers.
  • Support the purchasing and sales activities of the Procurement and Logistics Department.
  • Process documents for procurement and logistics business and handle the global logistic procedure.
  • Receives orders and advises on the best method based upon customer requirements.
  • Obtains quotations from vendors and provides sales price to customers.
  • Processes orders and communicates with vendors for delivery schedule.
  • Prepares export documentation and makes compliance determinations
  • Collaborates among vendors, customers, and forwarders to arrange for global logistics.
  • Contacts vendors for shipment and billing problems and initiates payment process for vendor invoices.
  • Maintains order status reports daily and reports to customers.
  • Manages delivery schedule.
  • Collects technical data from vendors.
  • Performs other duties assigned by Supervisor
  • Performs other special assignments and projects as needed.


  • A./B.S. or equivalent relevant experience with a minimum of at least three years of progressive experience, preferably in an international company.
  • Must have fluency in communication skills in English and Japanese (business level in speaking and writing).
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize workloads, meet deadlines, and interact effectively.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle tasks independently and proactively.
  • Self-starter with excellent anticipation skills; problem solving; follow up
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, organizational expertise, discretion, tact, and excellent grammar/proofreading skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural work environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all company leadership and direction.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
