Summit Healthcare Inc. is Hiring a Cook - Full Time Near Show Low, AZ

General Position Summary:

Responsible for preparing and serving large quantities of food for hospital patients, staff, and visitors, in accordance with county and state guidelines. Responsible for presentation of food and cleanup of equipment and area.

This position is considered a key critical entry level position, which makes the employee eligible for a maximum 6% in pay increases in the first 6 months of employment, based on competencies.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

·Uses A.I.D.E.T. (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you.) In every patient/guest encounter.

·Prepares and assembles food to be cooked.

·Cooks large quantities of food (meals and snacks) according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, and portion quantity, and in accordance to county and state guidelines.

·Cleans and inspect galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.

·Directs activities of cook assistants to prepare and serve meals.

·Washes pot, pans, utensils, and other cooking equipment.

·Ensures that all meals are served within a designated time-line.

·Check quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure standards are met.

·Orders groceries and supplies via computer from venders.

·Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the SHINE Behavior Standards.

·Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.

·Unlocks all refrigerators and freezers.

·Turns on all kitchen appliances.

·Locks all refrigerators, freezers, and all nutritional services areas.

·Turns off all kitchen appliances and equipment.

·Inspects kitchen area to ensure that all areas are clean and equipment is turned off.

·Fills in for other cooks when needed.

·Orders groceries and supplies via computer from venders.

·Cooks meals/snacks for special functions and ensures that they are professionally presented.

Secondary Functions:

·Re-stocks clean dishes.

·Takes out trash.

·Assists other cooks and cooks assistant when necessary.

·Prepares patient trays.

·Delivers catering requests.

·Prepares comfort carts.

·Attends staff meetings.

·Participates in departmental and association wide informational meetings and in services, including staff meetings, association wide forums, and seminars.

·Reviews department and hospital wide policies and procedures annually.

·All other duties as assigned.

Additional / Seasonal Responsibilities:

·Provides an increased amount of food to staff and visitors during special functions including Hospital Week, Employee Picnic, Holiday Meal, large meetings and all major holidays.

Job Scope:

This job involves:

·Performance of duties under independently-minimal supervision.

Interpersonal Contacts:

Contacts:

·Are normally made with others both inside and outside the hospital.

·Are made with own department, staff, and supervisor, as well as other staff and visitors.

·Contain some discussion about confidential/sensitive matters.

·Are normally face-to-face.

·Include contact with staff, patients, and physicians.

Specific Job Skills:

This position requires knowledge of all kitchen equipment.

This position also requires excellent communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.

This position also requires knowledge of the Hospital Information Systems.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Education and/or Experience:

·High School Diploma or equivalent (required).

·One year quantity cooking experience (required).

·Completion of approved sanitation or food handling course or evidence of similar training (preferred).

* Food Handlers card required within 30 days of hire

Physical Demands & Job Conditions:

Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. The worker is subject to contact with chemicals, heavy lifting, constant standing, and encounters with upset/disturbed individuals.

Physical motions include finger dexterity, standing, walking, stooping, talking, reaching, feeling, bending, kneeling, grasping, listening/hearing, handling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and feet.

This is considered a safety-sensitive position.

OSHA Exposure Category:

Involves no regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, and tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and are not a condition of employment.
