Our District:

The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.

 Our Community:

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our “backyard” is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

Our Middle School:

Sultan Middle School serves approximately 450 students in grades 6-8. SMS provides an inclusive environment that honors all people. Sultan Middle School has strong Professional Learning for staff with a solid climate and culture of doing whatever it takes to help students learn and succeed through collaboration, best practice, and inquiry. Staff continually work with students where they are at, which makes the staff the staple to our philosophy; Ensuring High Levels of Learning for All Students.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Under professional direction of the superintendent and school principal, this position is to serve as the assistant principal for Sultan Middle School.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and management of the middle school, treating all staff and students with respect and dignity.
  • Serve as the assistant instructional leader and assistant operational manager of the middle school facility.
  • Plan, conduct, and maintain performance evaluations designed to ensure that site goals and objectives are achieved, and that all levels of staff adhere to site, District, state, and national educa­tional standards and goals.
  • Provide staff with meaningful feedback that assists teachers in deepening their knowledge of teaching and learning.
  • Plan, develop, organize, and administer support systems which provide optimal educational opportunities for middle school age students.
  • Work closely with the staff and teacher leader teams in assessing each school's educational, behavioral and program needs.
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for students and staff that is free of harassment, intimidation and bullying.
  • Assist in the development of short-term, mid-term and long-range planning strategies for creating an optimal educa­tional program.
  • Supervise, direct, and coordinate the assignment of support personnel.
  • Coordinate student and family assistance programs with social service and youth service agencies.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with all staff, students and parents.
  • Accountability of student discipline.
  • Has a working knowledge of MTSS.
  • Has working knowledge of positive behavior interventions, supports and restorative justice practices.

Qualifications:

  • Masters’ degree or higher in educational administration or a closely related field.
  • Valid Washington State Administrative Certificate.
  • Minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience and previous experience in an administrative-like role preferred.
  • Ability to construct, implement, monitor timelines and meet deadlines on projects and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public, realizing that this position is a critical part of our community.
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques, strategies, goals, and objectives of public education.
  • Solid work ethic that exhibits patience and love towards our students and community.
  • Knowledge of philosophical, economic, and legal aspects of public education.
  • Knowledge of modern, innovative and creative curriculum and instructional trends regarding the middle school age student.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional program delivery strategies, and program supervision, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies, and team building principles and techniques.
  • Ability to manage, lead, and direct the functions and activities of a middle school facility.
  • Ability to make effective instructional practices the top priority and demonstrate effective organizational and administrative leadership.
  • Ability to talk with and relate to middle school students.
  • Ability to set high expectations for staff and students and inspire people to work towards those expectations.
  • Possess knowledge of current discipline laws and trends.
  • Knowledge of AWSP Leadership Frameworks and the CEL 5D Instructional Frameworks (preferred).
  • Have a working knowledge of the Teacher Principal Evaluation Process.
  • Continued leadership towards full implementation of the common core standards.
  • Lead Positive Behavior Intervention Systems in the building.

Compensation/Salary:

· *$118,822.00 - $137,678.00*

· Generous benefit & retirement package

· 213 day contract

*Based on current year salary schedule*

Pursuant to Chapter 43.43, Washington Laws of 1990, the recommended applicant will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating whether he/she has been convicted of crimes against persons listed in the law. In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol.
