SuiteMate Staffing Solutions is Hiring a LPN/LVN - Licensed Vocational Nurse Near Lubbock, TX

Salary: $33/hr - weekday shifts | $35/hr - weekend shifts

Weekly Pay with benefit options

Shifts Available:

  • 2:00p - 10:00p
  • 10:00p - 6:00a

Location: Lubbock, TX

**Will require a 40-hour week rotation, working 2 weekends per month

  • 6-Month Minimum Contract Assignment with option to extend

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs moderate to complex patient services work. This includes routine and emergency care, treatment, and training for people with intellectual disabilities in a residential setting.

  • Administers medications and treatments orally, rectally, internally, or by injection.
  • Assists other medical staff, such as Registered Nurses (RNs), Physicians, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, and Physician Assistants, in examining and caring for patients.
  • Assists the Infection Control nurse by implementing measures that prevent the spread of disease, assists the QA Nurse in developing and implementing quality assurance programs, and assists in the implementation of therapeutic nursing programs.
  • Makes rounds and/or home visits as needed and works in other locations at the facility as needed.
  • Demonstrates competency in performing technical nursing tasks and procedures in accordance with state regulations.
  • Performs routine nursing tasks according to facility and state regulations. Under the guidance, supervision, and/or direction of a registered nurse builds the skills necessary to competently perform more technical nursing procedures necessary to meet the health needs of the individuals residing at the facility.
  • Monitors individuals’ weight, diet, feedings, and vital signs. Monitors individuals’ health status after treatments and procedures. Instructs direct support professionals on how to monitor individuals after a treatment or procedure using instruction sheets such as that used for post-sedation monitoring of signs and symptoms.
  • Timely and accurately documents and reports pertinent treatments and observations in the individual’s medical record (electronic health record or paper chart) in accordance with facility procedures and protocols.
  • Responds to emergency situations to ensure the safety of individuals.
  • Follows safety and infection control procedures of the facility.
  • Collects specimens for laboratory examination and conducts appropriate screening tests when requested by lab personnel.
  • Ensures the individual is positioned correctly prior to providing a treatment and, when necessary, assists and/or instructs other staff in turning/repositioning individuals to administer treatments.
  • Ensures that supplies are available, in advance, to provide the required procedure or treatment. Takes inventory and ensures the home/unit is properly stocked.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Licensed to practice as a Practical or Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid Photo ID

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • 1 year, but preferably 2 years as a direct care nurse
  • Competent in advanced skills such as gastrostomy tubes/enteral feedings, Foley catheters, tracheostomies, etc.
  • Must demonstrate considerable knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; of health care laws and regulations; of medical diagnoses and procedures; of accepted medical treatment patterns; of community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures; of program regulations and procedures.
  • Must be able to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental disabilities and staff members.
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, nursing procedures and techniques, and the principles and processes used in providing appropriate patient care.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, i.e., CPR, and ability to assess and care for residents and/or staff members in emergency situations.
  • Skills in using reasoning to identify problems and in considering an appropriate resolution of situations.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and applicable computer software.
  • Skill in the care and treatment of patients.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and to use an electronic health record system once trained.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to instruct others.
  • Must have strength and flexibility to safely perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
