POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Director will coordinate and manage the daily successful operation of the child care center, that meets county, state and national regulatory agency standards (Suffolk County, New York State and the National Association for the Education of Young Children-NAEYC). The Director reports to the Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develops and implements an on-going program of age-appropriate activities that contribute to the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of the children.
  • Supervise all staff members of the child care center, who are responsible to create learning plans and programs, etc. Oversee the training and professional development of the staff. Provide accurate and meaningful annual performance evaluations for all child care staff.
  • Mange the hiring process and orientation for all new staff by recruiting and recommending applicants for open vacancies, and make sure that all background and fingerprint checks meet the requirements of the Office of Children and Family Services.
  • Develop a budget for the center and establish protocols to ensure that the center adheres to the budget. Ensure the program is cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the operation of the child care center; to recruit and enroll students, which includes welcoming visitors and familiarizing parents with program policies and procedures. Oversee and define policies of admission, attendance and tuition for children.
  • Administers the SUNY Grant programs including preparing the grants for submission, invoicing funds, and overseeing case management as per the grant requirements.
  • Attain and maintain membership accreditation in The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Coordinate the licensing renewal of the center with NYS OCFS and Quality Stars NY. Assure consistent compliance with all NYS OCFS regulations including maintenance of annual fire, health and other inspections. Manage the maintenance of files according to OCFS requirements. Prepare all necessary annual reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all the child and adult care food program (CACFP) requirements, prepares necessary reports and serves as lead for onsite assessments.
  • Plan and administer a parent participation and orientation program.
  • Maintain open, consistent and effective communication with parents, by providing parent education training, parent orientation, assistance and support as needed. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning for children, parents and staff. Communicate effectively to staff, children and their families. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Pursue grant opportunities for funding the Children’s Learning Center. Collect appropriate data, completes applications for grants, prepare required reports and administer the grant according to the published requirements.
  • Oversee the maintenance and safety of the building, which includes checking that safety equipment is available and working, removing hazards and ensuring the building is always clean and orderly.
  • Represent the center in a professional, courteous and positive manner at all times. Attend professional development conferences to maintain an understanding of the current best practices of curriculum and administrative functions of child development programs.
  • Follow all rules, regulations and policies of Suffolk Community College Association child care centers and follow directive from supervisor. Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Administration and/or the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience working directly with children aged birth through 5 in an early childhood education setting required.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience as an administrator in an early childhood education setting required.


Preferred Qualifications
:

  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Prior experience working with SUNY and/or New York State Early Childhood Education program.
HIRING SALARY:

Salary range $68,080. - $74,393.
