Succession Planning for Railroads Investing in the Next Generation is Hiring a Tax Manager Near Ashtabula, OH

This position will be responsible for a variety of tax issues including preparation or review of federal, state, local and franchise tax returns and income tax provision. Opportunities will also exist for exposure to various other specialty areas including corporate income and franchise taxes, credits and incentives, and other special projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Deliver a full range of tax services in compliance with laws and regulations within timeframe.
• Build relationships and interact with clients to provide excellent planning, consulting and expertise.
• Provide innovative tax planning and review complex income tax returns.
• Identify and mitigate tax risks.
• Coordinate accounting staff and assess their performance.
• Manage tax provision and tax compliance process.
• Improve processes by developing or implementing best practices.
• Manage and coordinate tax audits.
• Maintain tax balances on general ledger.
• Prepare all tax papers in regular basis and handle all information data requests.
• Facilitate and manage the preparation and review company federal tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms.
• Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business-related filings.
• Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
• Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
• Manage members of the tax team as they prepare components of the company's US federal income tax return and other tax documents.
• Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax team.
• Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
• Manage and facilitate IRS income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
• Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects.
• Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections. Manage and mentor members of tax team to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement.
• Perform tax audits for corporations and calculating tax payments.
• Maintain tax regulations and ensure that corporations comply with them.
• Identify and avert problems that may arise in tax dealings.
• File income tax and reconcile tax accounts.
• Monitor and coordinate the activities of workers in the tax department.
• Account for profit taxes and files for tax returns
• Work to ensure that individuals and corporations are not excessively taxed.
• Offer professional advice to corporations and individuals on tax matters.
• Assist the government in preparation of income tax.
• Prepare periodic tax reports which may be annual, quarterly, or monthly.
• Maintain tax balances on the general ledger.
• Reviews tax provisions and assist corporations in tax planning.
• Provide accurate and reliable tax data to corporations, individuals, and other professionals like accountants and solicitors.
• Maintain good relationship with other professionals like financial managers, public accountants, and budget directors.
• Identify areas of potential tax savings and efficiency improvements
• Ensure proper taxation of purchases by setting up tax projects in ERP system.
• Monitor and update sales and use tax rates to comply with tax laws.
• Process various tax returns, including sales and use, gross receipts, and business taxes.
• Ensure accurate taxation of invoices through monitoring and analysis.
• Comply with state and local tax laws and regulations.
• Research and analyze state and local licensing laws and exemptions.
• Apply for and maintain necessary licenses to ensure compliance.
• Collaborate with Business Unit coworkers on tax laws and rates.
• File property tax returns for the company
• Coordinate with external accountants on income apportionment
• Manage tax audits or inquiries as needed.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• ASC 740 experience required.
• Proficient in Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
• Highly organized with great attention to detail.
• Ability to manage various tasks on tight deadlines.
• Motivated self-starter, with ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and analytical skills.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• 5 years of recent US corporate income tax experience.
• Preference will be given to candidate with Big 4 and corporate experience.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
